MINUTES OF THE S.I.P.B. MEETING OF AUGUST 29TH, 1977. The meeting was called to order at 19:31 by DCH. In attendance were DCH, OTA, CWH, GMR, CBF, DAS, EJK, GMP, RK, and several randoms (Daniel Yuan and Joel Gennings). CRD, Craig Finseth (CF), SAS, HWC, AB, DLW, LSP, John Doty, his wife, and MLK came in late. The minutes of the previous week's meeting were read and accepted as corrected. User Interrupt: Clearinghouse wanted two terminals and couplers for R/O week. (CF and CRD walked in during this.) There was a discussion of why Clearinghouse needed two terminals. One was for the R/O center and the other was for the Deans's office to help with the making of permanent assignments. It was suggested that the Deans' Office rent their own. Motion to give them one Student Center terminal and a terminal from either East Campus or Baker. Passed. It was generally decided that East Campus was probably the best place to get the second terminal from. A discussion fo where to get the two couplers from followed. (SAS, HWC, AB, DLW, LSP, John Doty, and his wife all walked in during this discussion.) After a while the representative from Clearinghouse decided that he would ask the IFC to ask two of the frats to lend Clearinghouse their couplers. Clearinghouse is going to get the terminal from the Student Center Wednessday night and the terminal from East Campus next Monday night. User Interrupt: Chiang for solving non-linear mixed programming problems. $200 on Multics. Given. (MLK walked in at this point.) Treasurer's Report: The treasurer was absent again. We are still getting billed for that random phone in Baker. Chairman's Report: DCH asked who three of the randoms were. One was a friend of CWH (Daniel Yuan), the second was Craig Finseth (an Arc Mach hacker), and the third was Joel Gennings from Prime. The chairman went to Computer Mania last Thursday. The most interesting thing was a 48 line video terminal. It cost $1300 plus $650 for 256 by 256 bit graphics option. A 512 by 512 bit graphics option is also available. There was also lots of other garbage there (at Computer Mania). The chairman still hasn't put up signs about Watfiv. He will look into publicity. Office Report: The office has too many people in it (22 all together). There was a suggestion that we get the key for 39-530 for next week in case we have lots of freshman. 370-168 Report: Motion by DLW to terminate all services. Declared out of order by DCH. Watfiv & Pluto: There are still no signs up about Watfiv. Pluto works so all we have to do is make up the JCL and submit it. GMR is leaving soon so someone else had better start looking into this. LSP was nominated to replace GMR as Watfiv and Pluto Chairman. LSP refused the honor. MLK was willing to volunteer but didn't really know anything about the 370. There was some comment that we might get a freshman who knew the 370 and would want to do it. It was decided to let the whole issue sit for a while (i.e. die). Multics Report: There was a discussion of shutting off shift one student use. It was pointed out that this had already been voted on. GMP found a bug in the SIPB com_err_ today. It has been fixed. They fixed map. A disk drive broke down today. ECS Report: Motion to shut off the governor during shifts two, three, and four. Passed. CS Report: Still there. There will be a meeting to discuss it after the meeting tonight. APL Report: Motion to shut off APL during shift one and to remove the governor during the other shifts. This was done largely because it is impossible to shut off the governor for some shifts while leaving it on for others. Telecommunications Report: The MacGregor terminal may be broken. One terminal in the Student Center has a shredded ribbon and other apparently has a broken data set. Other: EJK brought over some MicroMind documentation. Applications: $250 total, $50 auto, $200 given (Chiang described above). Phillip Buchan ($75 Multics) deferred until he signs his application. Peter Ng ($50 370 - control theory) deferred pending more information on why he is spending so much money ($100 in 1 week). Other Other: None. Ther meeting was adjourned at 20:43 into a wine party. Minutes taken and submitted by RK.
