MINUTES OF THE S.I.P.B. MEETING OF MONDAY APRIL 17TH, 1978. The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by DCH. In attendance were archy, BSG, BIM, CAH, OTA, DLW, BEE, DCH, KLE, RLL, RMP, JIS, LSP, CRD, CBF, RK, and several randoms. HIC and JSL came in late. ********** User Interrupt: Evan Shapiro wanted 100 hours of time on Multics for hacking Jai-Alai. Was given $100.00. Another User Interrupt: Derrick Lewis (a Harvard Student) wanted $75 for PL/I on Multics. Given. ********** The minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted as corrected. SPSS Report: USL has bought the rights for Multics SPSS. That means we can't do anything for a while. Office Report: KLE complained to BIM about the state of the office. He said "If I want to make a mess, I want to be able to make it without putting it on someone else's mess." Treasurer's Report: No treasurer. We may be losing with FinBoard. We should make a proposal. It may have been due already. Chairman's Report: DCH will be going to Berkley. He will try to do something about terminals. More Office Report: The office typewriter is in bad shape. We are looking into having the typewriter fixed. The office is filthy. (HIC came in at this point.) The office has a saw. Why does the office have a saw? Why aren't people coming to office hours? 370 Report: No report. Multics Report: There may be some bugs in Multics Emacs. (JSL came in at this point.) ECS Report: The ECS Govenor doesn't understand about holidays. The what command also blows it. ECS also doesn't have anyway to set delays. "bullshit" hasn't come back. CS Report: The only things that we really need to finish are the modes statement and documentation. Committee Report: IPS' total discretionary funds are $100,000. IPS has a lot of people working for them. Wes Burner's total budget for IPS is 4.8 million. The center's budget is now basically balenced. OAIS may move to the Building 39 370. There are gross security problems with this. The Medical Department is already on the Building 39 370 are people aren't too happy with that. Telecommunications Report: The Random House terminal was moved S.I.P.B. Minutes - Monday April 17th, 1978 Page 2 thanks to DCH, HIC, DANG, and people from Random. Random is losing due to no power in the terminal room and no keys (except a master) for the terminal room. The left hand Student Center terminal blew a circut breaker and started smoking. We called it in. Text Processing Report: We have some doucmentation made up. A discussion followed as to whether or not it was too late this semester to start offering a text processing service. There was a motion to start the project immediately with $3000. There was an ammendment to start the project and publicity when the documentation goes to the printer. The ammendment and the motion both passed. Publications Report: We can't spell. Other: We need some Dr. Pepper. We are not filling up the fridge. There will be a hot pot at Colleen's next Wednessday.
