MINUTES OF THE S.I.P.B. MEETING OF MONDAY JUNE 5TH, 1978. The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by CRD. In attendance were Alan, ACW, BIM, CAH, CRD, DLW, GMP, RLL, OTA, BSG, JSL, LSP, MLK, and WOS. JIS, archy, CBF, HWC, and Dan Franklin came in late. The minutes of the previous week's meeting were read and accepted. (JIS came in at this point.) T__r_e_a_s_u_r_e_r'__s R__e_p_o_r_t: Lots of random statistics. We have spent $828 so far this month on Multics. C__h_a_i_r_m_a_n'__s R__e_p_o_r_t: The chairman started working. O__f_f_i_c_e R__e_p_o_r_t: null() M__u_l_t_i_c_s R__e_p_o_r_t: Multics Emacs goes on. There is now a version of Multics teco with redisplay like ITS. People are forgeting to new_user users. (archy came in at this point.) 3_7_0_ R__e_p_o_r_t: The MIT MVT Machine is a 7 Meg virtual machine. Thre may be limit stop accounting some day. (CBF and HWC came in at this point.) There was a motion to flush Watfiv in Septmeber and to put signs up now warning the users. Passes. There was a motion to flush the PL/C datasets after writing them to tape. Passes. S_I_P_B_T_E_X_T_ R__e_p_o_r_t: We should write a proposal. M__u_l_t_i_c_s R__e_p_o_r_t: The new card input facility has been installed. E_C_S_ R__e_p_o_r_t: Maybe Bullshit went away for the summer. C_S_ R__e_p_o_r_t: null() C__o_m_m_i_t_t_e_e R__e_p_o_r_t: The 168 is here to stay. Multics has probably been saved. The old hardware must go. We must get 2 processors and 2 million words of memory for 1.5 million dollars over 3 years if Multics is to stay. If this happens, the SIPB will not get a Vacs as we will be getting a large share of the Multics. We will however try to get a budget on a Vacs. Wes Bruner thinks the 370's system is crap while the 370's hardware is good and the reverse is true for Multics. T__e_l_e_c_o_m_m_u_n_i_c_a_t_i_o_n_s R__e_p_o_r_t: RK wrote the letter to Chuck Libby. Chuck Libby will think about it for a while and let us know. Motion to remove two phones pending further developments. Passes (6 to 4). CBF, LSP and HWC wrote a letter about terminals. We are asking for 7 terminals, 1 graphics terminal and 1 Diablo-type terminal for a total of about $20,000 for the terminals plus $9500 per year for maintainance. Apparently the office terminal was called in because it was blowing lots of fuses. Victor didn't find anything wrong with it and will replace the motor if the problem recurs. We may want to ask the SCC to remodel the Student Center terminal room. O__t_h_e_r: Some people thought that we were out of NUMS but we really have some. CokeComm will be run tonight. S.I.P.B.
