MINUTES OF THE S.I.P.B. MEETING OF MONDAY NOVEMBER 13TH, 1978 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by CRD. In attendance were ACW, Alan, BSG, CAH, CBF, CRD, DAS, DCP, DGH, DLW, Ed, GMP, JIS, KLE, LSP, Naha, OTA, PAE, Penny, RDM, RK, RLL, SHS, and Sol. Late were WOS, JSL, KAM, CWH, BEE, HIC, and RMP. L__a_c_k O__f M__i_n_u_t_e_s R__e_p_o_r_t:_ It was reported that there were no minutes of the previous week's meeting due to the fact that MagicSix was down all day due to incompetence beyond the call of duty by the AMG hardware department. U__s_e_r I__n_t_e_r_r_u_p_t:_ Adrian Ruth Walter wanted funding for doing research for a graduate fellowship in Course Eleven using the Consistent System. The estimated spending was 16 hours per week for the remainder of the term ($350). There was a motion to approve the allocation of $350 pending the receipt of a letter from the department stating that no funds are available from them. The money will be doled out in small quantities. T__r_e_a_s_u_r_e_r'__s R__e_p_o_r_t:_ We spent $1202 on Multics last week. $460 of that was on Student, $280 on ECS, $220 on SIPBADMIN, $110 SIPB, and $40 SIPBTEXT. New phone bills have come in. Check for your calls. There is now a receipts envelope in the strong box drawer for getting reimbursements for purchases. C__h_a_i_r_m_a_n'__s R__e_p_o_r_t:_ CRD and KLE went to talk to Bonney Kellerman. Bonney Kellerman would like for us to get Clearinghouse running on an MIT Machine and maintain it. (CWH came in at this point.) There was lots of discussion about this. CAH thinks that it would take one full man week to bring it up on MIT-XX and 1 year to bring it up on another machine. We will go back to Bonney Kellerman and tell her that we think that if they are going to bring it up on an MIT Machine, a Twenex would be the machine to use (there are two of them on campus). Also, we are not interested in bringing it up or maintaining it. Also, BBN may have some proprietary interest in the Clearinghouse program. O__f_f_i_c_e R__e_p_o_r_t:_ You should write the names and ID numbers of the people you give paper and ribbons to in the log book. (BEE and HIC came in at this point.) We may have gotten a few offers on the typewriter. The center (Joe Connors) thinks that he owns the typewriter. We should check into this. The new arrangement of the office makes it impossible to switch modems and terminals around. The diablo had three service calls last week and is still broken. 54 designed a meal ticket. 54 will print some of them up. RLL labeled all the boxes of listings in the office. M__u_l_t_i_c_s R__e_p_o_r_t:_ Honeywell sold one to Citibank. 3_7_0_ R__e_p_o_r_t:_ null(). E_C_S_ R__e_p_o_r_t:_ null(). C_S_ R__e_p_o_r_t:_ null(). S_I_P_B_T_E_X_T_ R__e_p_o_r_t:_ The diablo is losing. We wrote up a sheet describing how to print things. We will write a tvc to do it. The Page 1 S.I.P.B. Minutes - Monday November 13th, 1978 suffix command is broken. This broke our tvcs to runoff. CBF installed our own version of the suffix command. The installed version was broken on November 1st and we didn't find out about it until about a week later. Someone should merge SAS' new stuff on runoff with the NETs. Sol volunteered to do this. P__u_b_l_i_c_a_t_i_o_n_s R__e_p_o_r_t:_ We got an order for 2 LISP books by mail from Tennesse today. LISP books to be mailed cost $3.50. (RMP came in at this point.) T__e_l_e_c_o_m_m_u_n_i_c_a_t_i_o_n_s R__e_p_o_r_t:_ The Baker and New House terminals are both broken. We still do not have a service contract. The New House terminal keeps on blowing fuses. We will remove the ribbon so that people do not use it. CBF will talk to Mort Berlan and tell him that we want a service contract with DEC now. The letter about the new line for the office has been written but not sent because RK still has to talk to the people upstairs. The broken acoustic coupler still hasn't come back from S & S yet. However, our new coupler did come. It was exchanged with the Arch Mach coupler at WILG. We did not go to see an HP 2645 at HP last Friday. We may go this Friday. We are looking into a Magnavox Plasma display also. I_A_P_ R__e_p_o_r_t:_ People are starting to sign up for the LISP course. The LISP course was listed as conflicting with the Macsyma course in the first IAP guide, but MRG will move the Macsyma course. SIPBTEXT is probably low on spending. We may want to advertise it. We should probably wait a while. Perhaps we should offer a course over IAP to teach SIPBTEXT. Perhaps we should put an item in the IAP guide saying that we can provide funding for random projects. IAP is a good time to learn things. There was LOTS of discussswn about how this relates to SIPBTEXT. There was a motion to put something in the IAP guide. O__t_h_e_r:_ Perhaps we should write a letter to Course Eleven about their funding their own work. A__p_p_l_i_c_a_t_i_o_n_s:_ $1020 Total. $580 Auto ($525 Student, $55 SIPBTEXT). $440 Given. Adrian Ruth Walter was given $350 as above. Sol wanted $30 on SIPBTEXT to learn. Given. DLW wanted $10 on SIPBTEXT to try it. Given. JIS wanted $40 on Multics to re-learn PL1. Given. O__t_h_e_r O__t_h_e_r:_ PAE got come to office for encoded segments on SIPBTEXT. The meeting was adjourned at 21:30. Minutes taken and submitted by RK. Page 2 S.I.P.B.
