Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 9/24/79


The meeting was called to order at 19:29 by CAH.

In attendance were Soley, ACW, ALAN, CAH, BSG,, RDM, RLL, JIS,
	c|, GMP, ZRM, DCP, BEE, a couple of freshmen, and
	various users. (See attached list.) Late were RMP, Dorothy,
	archy, WER, JCG, and PAE.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted.
	PAE, RMP, Dorothy, and WER came in at this point.

	JCG came in at this point.
	Hook, Eric, wanted $40 for AAS newsletter. Given.

Treasurer's Report: We have spent $4065 this month; $1245 just this
	past week. Remember LISP notes are $2.00.

Chairman's Report: The chairman is still looking for a faculty
	advisor.  The chairman talked to Jean Bonney about Multics
	consulting by students; there still will probably be none.
	archy came in at this point.

Office Report: The tables in the back of the office have been moved
	around for better space management.  The old calculator must
	be gotten rid of.  We still have to give away the table from
	the student center.  There is a sign-out list in the toolbox
	for the use of the tools - use it, and leave tools and the
	list IN THE TOOLBOX when you are finished with same.

Multics Report: JIS is taking care of cleaning up our hierarchies (and
	the accompanying backup.)  We have an overload of NBDD; we
	will get rid of 1000 records of quota.  A user was added with
	a name that starts with a lower-case letter (deBeus); ignore
	the error message when you install_pmf.  Multics now has a
	PASCAL compiler!  IPC still has no new contract with
	Honeywell.  BSG has found the double-echo bug!

370 Report: The 370is down once again.  One of its drums is broken.
	Watch the 370 OK2RUN lists!  Beware of negative accounts on
	our users.

CS Report: ()

Telecommunications Report: The student center terminal room is always
	a mess.  Walk by and look in there every once in a while.  Chi
	Phi's terminal still needs to be fixed.  Our advanced video
	options for vt100's were received and installed; they all
	work.  The low speed vt100 in the student center was called
	in, but it works.  The LA120 needs paper; someone should talk
	to Jane Devlin to find out how to get paper for it, and do so.
	The spinwriter was picked up on Friday; it is not yet back.

Publications Report: There are plenty of LISP notes now.  Green cards
	are still in the works.

Annual Report: archy has written a section, but no-one has corrected
	the board copy.  Do so.  MUCH more needs to be done.  See c|
	and/or ALAN!  DCP is writing the IAP report.

Other: There is a PDP 11/45 at LOGO that they have nothing to do with;
	they want to GIVE it to us, if we have space and utilization
	for it.  We must find somewhere to put it before we can talk
	about it.  There have been retrieval requests to us from
	various users to retrieve from our backups; these MUST be
	processed.

Applications: 
	Ulloa, $25, for use with his micro as storage, etc. He gave
	us a check for same. Given.

	Stanford Kuo, $50, to keep track of members, print labels,
	etc.  Given with the restriction that no labels will be
	printed.

	Cholaj, Chris, for SPSS on the 370.  Deferred to meeting.

	Good, Michael, $100, for continuation of MIT concert band
	information and repertoire listings.  Given.

	$660 total; $470 autoed on Student. (Including $40 from
	above.) 

Other Other: "The Life of Brian" has started in Boston!  BSG is
	teaching LISP to high school students.  John Woods brought up
	a LISP written in BASIC on his TRS-80.  ACW went to
	Off-the-Wall.  The MIT football team won its first game this
	century.  The chairman is still sick.  Still need 12 pairs to
	Delphi from the third floor.  Kresge seems to be going in the
	general direction of London Bridge (remember your nursery
	school rhymes?)  Its three pillars seem to be turning to
	powder.  Take a look at it; it may be your last chance.
