In case you didn't notice, the phone list is now living in the office manual. WER said something about the budget which i totally missed. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT CBF went to see Jim Bruce (who will be replacing Corbato). CBF & WER have been working on our budget proposal. When they put something up on the board, please comment constructively & quickly. OFFICE REPORT The personid will be updated weekly. It will show up in what is dprinted weekly & will come in on Monday. If you don't know what this is used for, ask someone. Alan has a drawer which he will donate to the office. He will give it to the ex-treasurer so the treasurer can have a whole drawer. When you fill out a requisition for capital equipment it needs Wes' signature. a copy (xerox) should be sent to Wes' secretary immediately. She should also be given a copy of po's. RK reminded the office that there is a log book which should be used. Especially it should be used for recording that someone was added to spba or that someone borrowed equipment from the office. COMPUTER SERVICES We did a cleanup last week. We got back about 2/3 of the storage. We screwed PSR. He lost his diretory. Wellesley Religion 107. Cross-registered students have been using our terminal to access the Wellesley computer. KAM will call the professor (others are encouraged to remind her). We will explain to students where they can access the Wellesley computer, & we will give them text editing accounts on multics if that is more convenient. TELECOMMUNICATIONS REPORT something about dennis baron that i missed. The concentrator was running minutes. (KAM does not know what that means). it seems that it is doing well. Gill is thinking about the power cables, he must be reminded. we need a hole in the roof of the student center. According to JIS, if we ahve not finished the terminal concentrator in 5 weeks, Eric will take it away from us. Naha will corner Gill. Aligning microwave antennae will happen this Saturday. CBF suggests backup technologies instead of the microwave links. this will cost about $4000. $3000 for lines, and $1000 for a box to be a spare 11. CAH makes an alternate, cheaper proposal. It is all technical & i can't understand it. Naha thinks it needs to be researched a lot more. CBF wants to take the money from the capital budget. CBF will discuss it w/ Eric. The technical discusson got moved to a subcommittee. JIS says that we should to arrange maintenace of the microwave links w/ Eric. RK wants to know what we shall do with the broken z19 sitting in the office. Jay suggests that someone who knows something about fixing them take the cover off and look at it. CBF thinks that we should not continue taking z19's to wellesley. Some debate follows about which budget the repair cost is coming. If you have an extra alarm clock HGA would like it donated to the office. Some other people do not think much of this idea. PUBLICATIONS REPORT The NETS and NUMS came in. We got billed for $90 worth of books. It was a total mistake. It's been taken care of. Forget about it. ANNUAL-REPORT REPORT R/O REPORT IAP REPORT OTHER Gill got a call from Gerome Abernathy. He is working for Prof. Kennedy & wants to text edit his thesis. Gill describes his plight. Is there something we can do about this? WER says that sometimes Wes funds people if they're really desperate. PSR nominates Bob Weiner for membership. RSW. Amy nominates Carla for membership. Carla. (the secretary apologizes for calling her Clara). Something about leaving an Olivetti personal computer here. Some question about whether we want to be responsible for it. It was supposed to show up this morning, but it didn't. No decision was taken. There are now facilities for doing music at CCC. Gill still has our mirror. He should buy one of his own and give ours back to the tool box. WER says that we're going to be getting the money we need for changing the student center room. The estimate has been knocked down to 16000 from 20000. cris is spelled crsp. APPLICATIONS WER reports that there are more applicatons that weren't for text editing--about 20.
