Binkley is now roof fodder (disk problems). probe will deal with it when he gets the time Steve & Yaz now talk to each other. probe changed the jumpers on the ethernet card on steve to fix the interrupts. last week people talked about the printer, jweiss noted that it is has jammed mysteriously 3 times in the last 15 minutes. It is noted that the printer needs help. smit stopped by Dispatch and found that I/S has several 'normal' athena printers and a color 300 DPI printer (connected to a mac). Graphics art has a color printer that is not connected to the net either. Summation: there are no public High resolution printers on the net. Talk about getting either a High Resolution Printer or a color printer (but not both). We don't want to be competing with I/S dispatch, however Dispatches service is not easily accessible to many users. Flamage about the state of the art occurs. yandros: do we want to deal with accepting money for printing ? How much use does the dispatch color printer get ? Is there a way to bill through the print quota system ? probe says it is possible but may be beurocratic. srz says that until we get the facts there is no use flaming about it. Does anyone volunteer to get the facts ? dkk is willing to look into it (and has some experience with this) Athena is currently looking into new printers, we should find out information about that. poll about useage of lw-sipb: How many people have used the lw-sipb: many How many people have not used lw-sipb: few How many people think the current setup is a service: ~3 It *was* a service in 1986 when it was the only PostScript printer on campus. Which is more useful, a color printer or a high resolution printer ? (most people think color) How many people think we should have a printer in the office regardless of whether it performs a serivce: 12 against: 3 abstain: 3 Real summation: leira, opus, tlyu, rjbarbal, and dkk will investigate further and report back. The office is a pit. There were several trays of food around this morning. Clean up after yourself. The machine proposal is back in jis wait. milo is not feeling well again. Two more bad sectors cropped up. We may have a warranty for the drive ? warlord will deal. How do people feel about getting rid of it ? Many people think it is useful. MIT Computing Report: Linus is still down. athena.mit.edu has had dailly problems for 5 days po6 was down for a while (inetd problem) helen: all files have been moved off helen athena mail hub is a vax that is scheduled to be replaced by a maxine as is mit.edu. Athena set a new record of 5623 unique logins for one day. This is higher than the last week of classes last year. Statistic included 500 techmail users and 25% of the total were via dialup. Computer Services: probe will badger jis about the news server disks. new news server is running expire but is not getting rid of articles (oops) SIPB AFS Cell Backup Report: Done (mhpower) Publications Report: We are out of iAthena, we are punting on waiting for the new version and printing some (50). We also need more netnews (150), quick reference sheet (150), and iLatex (100) dcctdw & yandros will deal with copying all iPS is in unifried wait 100 iLatex went in 1 week. discussion follows about the revision level of iLatex, and problems with it. bjaspan in the past has said there is a problem and was going to fix it (and still has the file locked) R/O Report: It's over clearinghouse died yesterday (finally) IAP Report: Move to terminate ? wait a week.... PS course ? Send mail to tlyu if interested. (tlyu is flamed for thinking that far ahead) CokeComm Report: We have Coke...new soda jerk said he'd come today (and apparently has not) marthag says people are morons (wrt juice) Other: mkgray asks about dithering algorithms for his UROP. warlord tells him to talk to orwant@amt, jtidwell, or other people in the garden. proven: anyone know anything about someone hacking on tetris ? There was a weird phone call asking about tetris (it sounds fishy). Be on the lookout for hacked tetris. proven is going to San Jose to hack (and is being paid for it). Other Other: probe got a new cloak. shadow is leaving sunday morning rls is planning to go to King Richards fair on Sunday if people want to go say so. (or send her mail) Blade Runner: at nickelodeon (mail on sipb-soc) dkk likes the colors of lsc calenders. The meeting was adjourned at 21:04:32. Minutes taken and submitted by mhbraun.
