Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 11/30/92


	The meeting was called to order at  by mhpower.
	
	In attendance were

	Treasurer's Report:


Think C for the Mac? Not yet.

	Chairman's Report:

Chair is in Ohio
Vice is somewhere (there have been confirmed sightings) (Concert
Choir practice)

	Office Report:

Office is here (better than the chairman)
Student center was closed over the weekend (better than the chairman)
11-115 was SIPB office in exile for a few hours

	MIT Computing Report:

people have been going around hacking workstations for remote access,
if you see this send mail to hacked-ws@athena

        Computer Services:

Milo has a fully licensed copy of Mesa for demo, if someone can come
up with a a way that other NeXTs can get to it, the licence can be
upgraded to 25 users

News: someone has been asking about changes in expire times...there
has never been a notification system for when things expire, and since
changes in expire times are usually due to emergencies (disk filling
up) there is no plan for a system

Legal Issue:  Has anyone heard from the MIT legal staff about ABPE
stuff ?  No.

Summary of SIPB services in techinfo:  has anyone read it ? (silence)
We decide to punt for a week. Apathy rules, if no one has any
objection it will be installed after next week. Current copy in
	/afs/sipb/project/doc/services/services

There is a filter to get rid of `frivilous' but popular alt.* groups.
Do we want to install it?  There is a disagreement between the news
admins.

Currently, groups are being flushed manually so there is precedent

	(discussion follows) 

athena.newsgroups.bogus.bogus.bogus will be where the filter will put
the creation messages of groups that fail.

	News Migration Status

	Bill has put around 20 hours into fixing bugs.

	(Chad has put about the same amount into fixing Bill's fixes,
and vice versa; recurse.)
	
	The cutover will cause ~ 5 minutes outage for picayune users
		(Bill explains the process.)
		
	marthag & yandros were going to do the cutover this weekend,
but marthag is now at the infirmary.


        SIPB AFS Cell Backup Report:

	Done

	Publications Report:


Bert will deal with copying 100 iAthena & 100 iLatex.  He will attack
Chad and get the latest version of iAthena

Distribution of the Annual Report has commenced.

	IAP guide came out today...our courses are listed (even with
some pictures) and we even have some pre-registration

The course are:

	Intermediate Hacking (mkgray, shabby, kevles)
	Intro to Perl (mkgray & marc)
	Intro to PS (leira & tlyu)
	Crash course in C (amehta we think)
	

	CokeComm Report:

	The jerk is absent (in Fla) 
	We only have Diet Coke....a lynch mob will gather at the end
of the meeting to go south)

Lots of windows were smashed in central square (watch your cars, etc)
and then ran right into the cops

yandros is trying to get people to play frisbee on ice (and skates).
