Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 07/22/96


The meeting was called to order at 7:30 by nocturne.

Treasurer's Report:
	Treasurer isn't here.

Chairman's Report:
	nocturne: Mike Zehr may or may not be able to give us the
		Alpha that we talked about a month and a half ago.
		(This is not the Alpha currently being discussed on
		the linux-athena lists.)

Office Report:
	mhpower: Matt was concerned by the fact that a random person
		came into the SIPB office to pick up B5 tapes. He doesn't
		feel that it is appropriate to have many non-SIPB people
		coming here for something that doesn't FTGOS.

MIT Computing Report:
	ghudson: There's apparently an Irix early cluster.
	jhawk: It's only test-sgi...
	ghudson: It's possible that the SGIs in w20 may become operational
		this week.

Computer Services:
	ghudson: We are expecting a drive from ADS to replace the one on 
		rosebud that died. (Hopefully R^2 won't send us a disk
		since it wasn't theirs that died.)
	mhpower: Was this supposed to be a 24-hour cross-ship?
	ghudson: It's supposed to be a 48-hour replacement, but this
		isn't any worse than the service we got from R^2.

	marthag: Is there something we should be doing with the empty
		drive enclosures from the dead drives?
	ghudson: They're useful, but we should find a better place for
		them or throw them out.

SIPB Backup Report:
	yonah: Everything was done last week.

Publications Report:
	jhawk: It has come to the attention of the iKernelCrap developers
		that Athena release engineering doesn't properly test crash
		dumps of kernels.

	jlwfnord: iFrame is progressing; we're not doing much right now
		because we're hosed.

	kretch: I have a Kerberos diagram thingy on the board, please
		bleed on it.

Other:

	jtkohl: The Olympics web page crashes Netscape 1.1 on many
		platforms.

	marthag: I have an AUP.

	jhawk: The USENIX Security Symposium starts Wednesday, and
		will be on the mbone.

	cordelia: Arizona is hot. Damn hot. But flying an F-16 makes up 
		for it.
	ghudson: Is it a dry heat?

	jtkohl: The lurkers guide for B5 has the Season 3 finale title,
		so if you don't want to know what it is, don't look there.
