Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 11/4/96


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by yonah.

In attendance were

Treasurer's Report:

	kretch: I have nothing to report.


Chairman's Report:

	yonah: Next election will be in two weeks.

	jered: I would like to nominate amu. [black ballot; he's
		already a member]

Office Report:

	jered: Should we deal with steve-dallas's video card?  It was
		causing problems; I sent mail to bugs, and brlewis
		said that he had similar problems and replaced the
		video card.

	ghudson: You should probably send mail.


MIT Computing Report:

	jhawk: The mail hubs are being syn-flooded; other machines are
		being syn-flooded too.

Computer Services:

	ghudson: We have UPSes in the machine room.  We should
		probably migrate. I'm not sure I want to be in charge
		of this.

	mkgray: nathanw says Mosaic 2.7 Beta5 is installed in the sipb
		locker for most platforms; it works fairly well.  If
		Mosaic 2.7 comes out, it will be installed.

Publications Report:

	kretch: We're low on iDiscuss and iLaTeX.

	kretch: Move to get 50 more copies of LaTeX and Discuss; up to
		$200. [second, white ballot]

IAP Report:

	kretch: If you got confirmation with the wrong info from the
		IAP office, talk to me.

CokeComm Report:
	()

Other:

	jhawk: The new UPSes have a serial module; we might want to
		interface with them.

	danw: Someone should update the maps of the Athena clusters
		which are in nocturne's SIPB homedir.

	mhpower: As discussed on sipb-staff, there were Multix
		printouts discarded and un-discarded.  I'm looking
		through them to see if they are useful.

Other Other:

	danw: If NCSA Mosaic 2.7 doesn't come out, it will be the
		second NCSA program to die at version 2.7 Beta5
		(NCSA Telnet for the Mac was the first).

	jtkohl: The fourth season of B5 starts tonight.

	warlord: The politics of PGP, Inc. sucks hairy rocks, and
		that's on a good day.

	jhawk: Sun doesn't want to implement telnetd lime mode;
		people should try to convince them they do.
