Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 06/1/98


The meeting was called to order at 19:31 by elliot.

In attendance were

Treasurer's Report:
	elliot: The treasurer is playing softball.

	jhawk: A SAPWeb bug prevents us from looking up our reqs online.

	sit: How much money do we have left?
	svalente: I don't know how to determine that.
	elliot: I'll get Greg to explain how these things work.

	jhawk: According to our monthly statement dated 30 April,
		from our operating budget we have sent $12000 of $16000,
		and from our equipment budget we have spent $10000 of 
		$11000. It's possible there's some important stuff not
		accounted for here.


Chairman's Report:
	elliot: There is an election next week for gisele.

Office Report:
	gisele: Remember to empty your drawers by the 14th.

Office Cleaning Report:
	It's clean-ish.

MIT Computing Report:
	kcr: Ops appears to be losing another disk.

	foley: 8.2 goes into beta tonight.
	jhawk: People have been lame w.r.t. updating to the [named]
		patch release.

	srz: The mailhubs are again doing relay blocking.

Computer Services:
	foley: Bloom-beacon is still doing mail relaying, and
		we're about to be put onto Paul Vixie's blacklist. We
		should fix this.
	mhpower: This is more complicated, because bloom-beacon does
		UUCP forwarding.

	sit: Linux-dev is thinking about putting together a RH-A release
		based on RedHat 5.1 for the fall.

SIPB Backup Report:
	foley: Our new drive has been working for more than a week. All
		UFS backups were done. Hopefully I can soon return the
		Ops drive. Other backup maintainers should be unlame and
		talk to me about doing projects.

Publications Report:
	jhawk: We're missing EMACS reference cards, still.

R/O Report:
	lnemzer: A full-page flyer for the ASA mailing is in. The half-page
		for the directory is being prepared. They will want money
		for the mailing, about $25.

	kcr: Move to allocate up to $30 for the ASA R/O mailing.

Other:
	jhawk: It is with much regret that we announce the passing of
		a valued member of the network group, Iggy.

Other Other:
	jtkohl: The Blue Angels will be performing August 1st and 2nd  at
		Hanscom Air Force base.

	tb: In the same week as Iggy's passing, the angelfish eggs hatched.
		There are lots of little tiny angelfish on the side of the
		tank. They're very cute.

	harrisj: Unless Stan builds a sock puppet of me, this will be
		my last SIPB meeting for some time.

	foley: In Japan, "Gozilla" is spelled with a J!

	katyking: People should come to Vinny Testa's Wednesday.
