In attendance were Voting members: jmorzins, nathanw, cfox, gemery, tibbetts, fyfer, lgdean, gisele, ingolia, sly | golem, deberg Non-voting members: zacheiss, srz, oscshwar, jhawk, rjbarbal, magdalen | gsstark, jweiss, yonah, nygren Prospectives: d_wang, cana, bperrin | nim, jhutz, xela Treasurer's Report: sly: So we have as of my last tally $1768.47 of which we've allocated $1825. We ordered a scsi cable for granola. It's here. I sent off monkey's stuff, it cost $26.93, I move that SIPB reimburse me the extra $6 above what was allocated. [white ballot, motion passes] sly: Tell me if you've bought stuff. tibbetts: The money for RAM for vmware? Make that [allocation] go away. sly: Already done. Chairman's Report: '() Office Report: jhawk: We're short on floppies. I move to spend $25 on 40 floppies. [tibbetts seconds] [white ballot, motion passes] jhawk: Note for the record that flopy disks have a higher failiure rate than they used to. sly: I rebooted the drinky birds, they seem happy again. jhawk: jweiss rebooted the new drops, or at least booted them, and they seem to be functional. The analog phone broke early last week and got fixed. Telecom reports that the jack was non-funtional, so we're down by one analog jack. yak: Since there are lots of PC keyboards in the office that suck, move to allocate $10 to purchase two new keyboards from me. cfox: Have you looked in the cupboards? yak: Not recently, but last time I looked all of those sucked. cfox: Are they clicky or not? jhawk: It's known that people all like different keyboards. yonah: It might be easier to deal with this out of the auction fund. yak: I accept a friendly amendment to my own motion to pay out of the auction fund. sly: I'd like to see the keyboards in the cabinet gone through, if they really do suck. yak: That's irrelevant to my motion. [11-1-6 motion passes] tibbetts: Since many of the keyboards aren't good, I'd like to move that I dig through them, and toss... nathanw: Dig through them first, then come back with a motion to toss them. zacheiss: Now that I've deployed automated backups, we don't need portnoy as a dedicated backup server. I move that we get rid of bart-savagewood's head and move portnoy back to where it was. jweiss: Friendly amendment to get rid of only the CPU, keyboard mouse, but not monitor, and not the cg6 which isn't ours. yak: Is bill-the-cat different in any interesting respect from bart-savagewood? zacheiss: No. jhawk: Objection to white ballot, there's still space on top of the fridge. [15-1-3 motion passes] jhawk: It apppears that some of the new janitors think they can remove posters from our board when they think the event is over. They have been talked to. jweiss: There will be an auction after next week's meeting, I'll send mail. Office Cleaning Report: '() MIT Computing Report: zacheiss: 8.3.28 goes to the athena cell in a few hours, it fixes those horrible kerberos bugs. 8.4 for Suns goes into beta, we already have an 8.4 SGI, xcb, bh, and savage are all in the beta cluster. jhawk: The nw12 router lost horribly this morning. Computer Services: zacheiss: rosebud panicked today. We didn't lose any data. I'd like to swap it out sometime, since the hardware is sort of cursed. nathanw: The file that was lost appeared to be a very bad file to lose. zacheiss: Chapter 1 of deberg's thesis was lost after he went to turn it in, but he has other copies. nathanw: We're temporarily running the primary anonymous CVS server for the NetBSD project, on some hardware of wesommer's, which is in the machine room. We expect it to be gone in under a month. SIPB Backup Report: zacheiss: AFS backups did themselves again, and even dealt with rb panicing. I started an automatic ufs backup method that works for everything except www. nathanw: The www folks should collide with Garry and figure that out. Publications Report: jhawk: We got more cluster cards the other week. Orientation Report: nim: The form has been turned into ASA, photocopies will be made, billing will happen, it's still needed for someone to stuff envelopes on June 20 6-10 pm. nathanw: Do we know what the non-copying cost is? nim: ~$40 IAP Report: '() CokeComm Report: '() Other: jhawk: gsstark is here. sly: And he doesn't look like Brad anymore. gsstark: I dissapear in two weeks. xela: I'm buying tickets for a Moxy Fruvous trip on the tenth of June. Other Other: fyfer: According to John Adams, the first continental congress was much like a SIPB meeting. gisele: bounce bounce! nathan: Lots of people we know are graduating. tibbetts: Helixcode tried round robin DNS to limit the load on their CVS server, and there were many deaths. jhawk: jhutz is here. nathanw: Brad and Greg are both clean-shaven. sly: The trees in vermont are breeding a lot more than the trees in Boston. golem: I met a high school friend, and didn't die. Post meeting ultimate report: everyone should look at Chad. The meeting was adjourned at 19:48. Minutes taken and submitted by cfox.
