Office Cleaning Report: belmonte: The carpet was vacuumed. tibbetts: There's an annoyingly large pile of keyboards next to the monolith, still. jweiss: I might deal with that. MIT Computing Report: jweiss: New moira features were recently deployed, the most interesting one is the ability to have both a list owner and a list membership acl, the membership acl being people who can add and remove people from the list, but not do other administrative stuff to it. nathanw: There's the freshman dorm lottery up, and boy does it need work. People should beat on it. Computer Services: hartmans: Last Friday a group of us decided that it would be really nice to have a resonable linux installer to give to freshmen. We've been hacking on the redhat 6.2 installer to make it install linux Athena reasonably. In particular, we have it working modulo some cleanup, and the phase2 (post install) script. We need people to volunteer to test it, and people to volunteer to write the one-sheet. This is a project that can use people who've installled redhat before, but don't have much experience. tb: How do you want to hand it out? tb: May I suggest that it maybe useful to press CDs. hartmans: According to Charles, the best we could do would be about $4000, most of that cost being fixed cost. tb: You could press for about a dollar each. tibbetts: On a related note, if you can generate gui windows binaries, it would be cool if you could generate a windows program that'll make you a floppy. ghomsey: What's wrong with rawrite? tibbetts: It's ok, but it would be superior to have a one shot. nathanw: Lower level details off line. SIPB Backup Report: zacheiss: AFS still in progress, UFS hit a bad tape, some partitions of penguin-lust failed. Publications Report: jered: It came to my attention that IS stopped making emacs quick reference cards. Move to allocate up to $50 for up to 200 copies of the reference card on green stock tb: There's stuff in the pocket reference. alien took the job on, it would be nice to get back to her about it. jhawk: Most of you are being way too verbose, the thing to do is to talk to sendpubs and Heather, to get the source. cfox: I'd like to make the money available at jered's judgement, since we may want to do this before the next meeting. [white ballot motion passes] nathanw: We've got pocket references. zacheiss: I believe those are from last year. tb: Can soemone have the job of poking sendpubs? zacheiss: They've had two peices of mail, and there's only one person. Orientation Report: nim: I sent a blurb to the tech, because they wanted a blurb. People should talk to me about the midway, preferably soon, the midway starts at 2pm on Tuesday [next week]. cana: Only one person has volunteered to be a tour guide. zacheiss: Masses of frosh start arriving tomorrow. If frosh come here having trouble registering, you can look for me, or for the other accounts consultants. IAP Report: xela: IAP has been coming sooner than you think, it would be nice if we got room reservations in by the first of October. Move to allocate up to a thousand dollars to spend on reproductions for IAP classes. This would be the same allocation I've had the last two years. jweiss: Objection to white-ballot, since it's a lot of money, I'd like to see a real vote. [9-0-4 motion passes] CokeComm Report: jweiss: People should take down empties. Other: '() Other Other: xela: In a remarkable fit of honesty the institute, is welcoming the frosh by taking one of the elevators out of service. tibbetts: Python sucks and nothing good ever came out of North Carolina. dmaze: For people keeping up on our DSL saga, we got mediaone. Thus ends the saga. marc: NAT sucks. But that wasn't what I stood up to talk about. We are ready to tell anyone what yonah's secret company is doing, if you're looking for a job as a part time sysadmin or office manager. dmaze: NAT may suck but harddrives that don't spin up suck more. tb: I was on the Hudson last weekend and saw an amazing lightning storm. golem: I entered the maw of the beast and came back with hair. ocschwar: Did you drink the Kool-aid? xela: Did you think NT was a gtood idea as an imbedded platform? lnemzer: A winery in France is opening a cave of 1959 burgundies, talk to me for details. dmaze: tb doesn't love us anymore, and is leaving. rls: tb says I need to hear the bobo story, but nobody will tell it to me. jhawk: Everybody should look at jweiss, and do something intelligent. jweiss: Frisbee. The meeting was adjourned at 19:47. Minutes taken and submitted by cfox.
