Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 06/4/2001


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by fyfer.

In attendance were

Treasurer's Report:
	jhawk: She's not here.  She ordered the clock.  People should
		save receipts for stuff.

Chairman's Report:

Office Report:
	tibbetts: We should buy a USB floppy drive for banana-sr.  The
		current one belongs to amu and will disappear soon.  I
		move to allocate $100 for it.

	tibbetts: We should buy an updated version of the X reference
		manual.
	jhawk: Can we not print it out?
	tibbetts: But then we wouldn't have a bound version.
	jhawk: Copytech can bind it.
	tibbetts: I move to allocate $100 to buy a book.
	jhawk: I think it's dumb to buy the obsolete book when you can
		buy a new version.
	tibbetts: I want to get the newest version.
	fyfer: Do we have money in this year's budget?
	jweiss: I think we're ok.

	tibbetts: I think we should spend $400 to get N-Design and Adobe
		Illustrator for the Mac.  
	jhawk: It wuld be cool to have a vector drawing tool in the
		office that doesn't suck.  Illustrator is such a tool.
	jhawk: Keep in mind that this is the last of our money for the
		year.
	hartmans: But we want to spend all of our money.

	jhawk: The keyboard extension cables arrived.  They're in a
		box.  I got straight and curly ones.
	alex_c: They're not good at preventing damage to the jacks on
		the back of the suns because you still need to pull it
		out to get the keyboard to work.
	tibbetts: Have you tried stop-A?

Office Cleaning Report:
	tibbetts: I'm going to get rid of books after the meeting.  Let me
		know if you want them.

MIT Computing Report:	
	jhawk: We have an OC-3 but can't turn it on yet.  I don't know
		if my estimate is still good or not.

Computer Services:
	fyfer: The announcement went out for Linux desupport.  The
		desupport date is June 15.	

	tibbetts: NetBSD desupport announcement went out.
	fyfer: Is granola reinstalled?
	tibbetts: No.

SIPB Backup Report:

	fyfer: We have installing linux one-sheets.

Orientation Report:

	xela: It's sooner than you think.
	fyfer: If you know of sources of funding for speakers, it might
		be helpful.

CokeComm Report:
	fyfer: Take down cans and bottles.

	hartmans: Powering your house off your dryer is cool.
	jhawk: It was only half the house.  
	jhawk: There's a radio contest this weekend.  Talk to me.
	tibbetts: 5E's new cleaning person was finally educated and
		threw everything away.
	golem: I work at Permabit, bringing its SIPB count to 4 out of
		15.
	hartmans: Mekinok has a higher SIPB percentage. I resist 
	         bringing something up.
	golem: I bought a bed.  I don't have to sleep on the floor.
	fyfer: Or in the office.
	golem: Theoretically.
	fyfer: Friday is graduation.  Some SIPB people are graduating,
		some on time.
