Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 07/26/2004 The meeting was called to order at 7:30 by kchen. In attendance were Voting members: jmorzins kchen | jtu Associate members: jhawk golem | alien Prospectives: Guests: Treasurer's Report: We took receipts to our financial admin, but Eileen was smart and didn't come to work today. Chairman's Report: Not many people are here. Sherri engraved the pen, we took it to w91, but Jane was smart and didn't come to work today. Office Report: The airport express showed up. People dropped the box on the table without sending mail, which was confusing because we didn't know that it was here, or what it was. Now we have it, but we have no idea what to do with it. The light above the fridge is still out; plant replaced the bulbs, and we're waiting for an electrician to do something about ballast. Chris moves to allocate $1600 for two Phantoms. There is discussion of how many people will do Windows development, and whether you need one Phantom would be sufficient. Motion dies for a lack of a second. Chris says "you all totally suck, and I would like that to go on the record". Jacob is pondering replacing the recycle paper bin by the staplers with a recycle can/bottle bin by the staplers. Joe Foley swapped the CRT from hodge-podge with the LCD from opus, so that people scanning on opus could resolve more levels of black in their results. Jen would like to allocate $200 for a power drill. There is discussion of whether people who want to drill things would already have access to drills via other means, and whether SIPB expects to need the drill often in the future. [3-1-2, motion passes] [jtu allocation: $200 for drill] Sherri asks whether we're interested in a fax machine. Idle discussion ensues; there are concerns about having space for a machine, or dedicating a line to it. Interest is muted. Office Cleaning Report: MIT Computing Report: The AFS server procustes had trouble this afternoon. Computer Services: Arolfe says that the www.mit.edu transition is happening the evening of August 8. SIPB customized features (like password protection via .htaccess) will stop working on www.mit.edu, but will keep working on stuff.mit.edu. We're providing a list of symlinks and other information to the network group. There is some discussion and grief about whether we have a detailed transition plan. Publications Report: Publications look okay. Orientation Report: We got the HowToGamit ad in. We are ordering tattoos. We're still looking for an orientation sucker. If you're interestred or know people who are interested, let jtu and kchen know. IAP Report: It's sooner than you think. Sherri will send out email with a call for teachers. Start thinking about what you're going to think this year. We plan on advertising a lot. There is also a lecture series this year. If you have ideas for speakers, let Jen or Sherri know. CokeComm Report: 'nil Other: Sherri tried to prospectivizing bobmah. She didn't use a very good pitch. Chris is not talking to us. Other Other: IE is still the recommended browser for MIT for windows. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45. Minutes taken and submitted by jmorzins.
