Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 10/18/2004


The meeting was called to order at 17:30 by kchen.

Chairman's Report:

	kchen: This morning she was hosed and panicking, then she met
		with jgrochow, and now she is hosed and trying not to
		panic.  You can ask her more after 9:30 PM tomorrow.

Office Report:

	jhawk: The chair people say they are coming on Wednesday
		again.  Bets on whether they'll succeed?

	keithw: I'd like to put a display on the monolith to show
		what's on LAMP.  An additional benefit is that we
		could listen to LAMP music in the office.  Could we
		allocate $170 for a TV and stuff?

	jhawk: We should get a cheaper one.
	kcr: Can we use a TV card?
	keithw: A TV would be prettier.  This would be the cheapest TV
		possible.

MIT Computing Report:

	jhawk: Does anyone know what happened this morning?
	[mumble mumble, apparently not.]

Computer Services:

	jbarnold: Steve-dallas needs to be upgraded.  There will be
		some downtime.  The only machine I know of that will
		be affected is mega-man, which I'll deal with.  This
		will happen sometime in the next couple of weeks. I
		might send mail.
	jmorzins: For those who might not know, mega-man is scripts.mit.edu.

	keithw: LAMP is in beta testing.  We plan to roll it out on October 25.

Publications Report:

	jmorzins: Somebody came by to take some today.  It was exciting.

	jmorzins: Classes have been scheduled.

	kchen: Zephyr discussion suggested that a class about athena
		would be useful.  Tibbetts ran a cluedump two years
		ago when I got here based on /mit/ghudson/info/athena
		that was pretty useful.

CokeComm Report:

	aerynne: I bought coke.  Let me know if there's anything missing.

Other:

	jhawk: I got my first new $50 bill today.  Also, $2 bills are
		available from me as always.

Other Other:

	ctl: One member and three prospectives advanced in rank in
		karate on Saturday.

	xela: There's a box of books in the front of the room.  Most
		of them are computer related.  Feel free to grab them.

	arolfe: The ice rink reopened today.  Everyone should go.
