Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2013-01-28


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by bbaren.

In attendance were

Administrivia:
	vasilvv: We're out of compressed air. Has anybody ordered new
		air?
	bbaren: No, and I also haven't ordered a clock. I should do
		that. Victor, go order it from govconnection.

SIPB Projects Report:
	glasgall: Barnowl is having a hackathon on February 9th; you
		should come if you're interested.
	bbaren: The Python Bee happened; 22 people showed up. I'll be
		submitting reimbursements later this week. For
		reference, 40 problems is not enough.

	vasilvv: Debian bugsquashing party happened, co-organized by
		lfaraone and paultag as part of an IAP class. About 7
		people attended. It was great.

	adehnert: Debothena easier to run private instances of, easier
		to support new tracks too, and other features. You can
		also zephyr daemon/debothena.mit.edu in personals.
	bbaren: Is there any chance debothena and lambdabot might get
		together and have a child? lambdabot is the #haskell
		bot that does package searching. While we're at it,
		can we make it the MCP?
	adehnert: IRC is conceivable. I'm not thrilled about teaching
		it arbitrary code execution.

	vasilvv: H.265 was finalized. It is supposed to beat H.264 by
		a factor of two for the same quality. It is not clear
		when we'll get encoders that actually *work*, by which
		I mean have greater than 1fps compression.
	bbaren: Reg day is Monday, spring term starts Tuesday. It's
		supposed to get up to almost 50 in the next 48 hours,
		but that just means it'll start raining.

	bbaren: Officer elections will be held in three weeks.
