Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2015-01-19

The meeting was called to order by dvorak42 at 19:30.

Project Updates

        btidor: I would like to run a sentry service for exception-logging.  I 
                want to set up a small, not-highly-available service on one of 
                the old scripts machines.  If anyone has a better use for 
                scripts machines please let me know. 

        iannucci: he means, “speak now or forever hold your peace.”

        btidor: sentry recommends using SSD for latency reasons, it’d be cool 
                to get two 256 GB SSD’s, so I’d like to propose an allocation 
                for new SSDs at some point.  

        achernya: second. motion to white ballot. 

        dvorak42: allocation passes. 

        iannucci: the MIThenge website is out of date, at some point there 
                will be an alignment of MIT, astrologically.

        dzefn: the barbeque pits have been successfully reserved for the April 
                26th reunion. 

        dvorak42: as of friday we got another update on the machines that HRT 
                was going to donate, as of friday we should have about 20 more 
                scripts-class machines, and then hopefully we will have lots 
                to spare.  

        iannucci: what is the state of the scripts fleet at present?

        achernya: scripts-class refers to the type of machines we used for 
                scripts, as distinct from the xvm-class servers.  

        dvorak42: depending on how busy I am with my thesis, we may want to 
                allocate currently unused machines into a cluster or otherwise 
                making them available for experimentation.  after we have the 
                machines from HRT, we may look into using the current machines 
                for OpenStack or HPC.
