Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2015-02-02


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by vasilvv.

Administrivia:
lfaraone: We should probably replace the Tylenol I Threw out.
mitchb: I was looking for Motrin and we didn’t have it

tthoma24: We should get a new printer to replace Meadow, given its current age. I mentioned this at a prior meeting. Suggestions included making sure it was business class and could print 11x17". I'm going to try to come up with a reasonable model to make an allocation. Send any suggestions my way.

SIPB Projects Report:
tthoma24: On behalf of glasgall, a system disk failed in one of the XVM RAIDs. achernya went to microcenter, bought a replacement, and replaced it. Service was at no time disrupted.

tthoma24: Per vahle, cokecomm will be updated & restocked for the spring semester this coming weekend.

slz: The new Raspberry Pi 2 came out today. It has Quad Core 900MHz ARMv7 processor with 1GB RAM. IT also runs Linux distros including Windows 10.

tthoma24: How much is it?

slz: Still $35 plus shipping

dianah: Open Source Comes to Campus. Reahced out to some mentors and my dvisor and he mentioned it might be worth getting Facebook to fund next year.

slz: I move to allocate $50 for an Raspberry Pi 2.

vasilvv: I would like to nominate csvoss for membership. She rescued SIPB IAP when it was doomed. Can you tell us more about how it went?

csvoss: SIPB IAP happened. We had some cancellations due to weather, but the last class we had was a clojure class. It was good. We had teachers of Python, Ruby, etc. It's all on the website

vasilvv: Anyone to second the nomination?

dianah13: It's not Jarvis, it's Jasper.  It's an AI that runs on a Pi and talks to you and stuff.
