Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 9 June, 1980

	The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by Richard L. Lawhorn.
		
	In attendance were RLL, GMP, RDM, Naha, JSL, ACW, CWH, ZRM,
		Alan, RK, and J9.
			
	Late were: Gonzo, 

	The minutes of the meeting of 2 June were read and accepted as
		corrected.

	*	Paul Czarnecki is in hot water with Course 6 because
	*	he used their money for doing some of his own stuff.
	*	Some of the work was someone's thesis (not Mr.
	*	Czarnecki's).  He used up about $300.  Prof.  Adler is
	*	very upset and wants to bill Mr. Czarnecki.  Gonzo and
	*	Soley were censured for adding the $300 to Czarnecki's
	*	account on the 6-912 project after and will write a
	*	letter to the effect that they did not act as SIPB
	*	members.  There was a motion to give Mr. Czarnecki
	*	up to $150 to cover that part of Mr. Czarnecki's debt
	*	that the ARCS project does not.  Passed.

	Treasurer's Report:

		So far this month we have spent $3491.42.  Projected
		year's expenditure is still near $90,000.

	Chairman's Report:

		The chairman is not here: he has a meeting with a real
		estate broker.  The chairman was an usher at RMP's
		wedding. 

	Office Report:

		Naha labelled the unlabelled drawer's around the
		office.  People who keep drawers should keep them
		labelled.

		There will be three high school students hanging
		around the office this summer:  Fred Richardson, Emily
		Koumans, and Mark Koumans.

		There is a new Center service called the outside
		mailing service.  The destination field will read OSM
		followed by four digits, or IPS/OSM followed by four
		digits.  Output of this kind from the Spinwriter
		should be taken across to Dispatch, and given to an
		operator. 

		There are pieces of Spinwriter output from February in
		the output shelf.  They should be left there for a
		while yet:  six months is a reasonable limit.

		The office was waxed.  They hung a warning notice on
		the door which no one read.  Thus the whole thing was
		a complete surprise.  The waxing job was OK, however.

		Someone named CGWL or CWGL has been borrowing books
		from the SIPB library.  Try to catch him at it.

	Computer Services:

		Rumors from Mr. Palter:  Olin Sibert has quit the
		Center and will eventually go to work for CISL.  In
		the interim he is working for Frankston at Software
		Arts.  The delay is because Olin refused to sign the
		standard contract, and wants to be able to market
		products he develops on his own time.

		Mr. Palter is also leaving the Center.  We will need
		someone to be a liaison with the Center.  Mr. Palter
		will also be working for CISL.  He has signed the
		standard contract.

		The new Multics hardware is really going to arrive,
		someday, maybe.  New memory and new front ends will be
		the first things to show up, sometime in July.  There
		will be lots of high speed lines available.  A new IBM
		machine is also going to show up to do payroll.

		Everyone added after 1 June 1980 will be extended over
		the summer.

		The Calcomp plotter is broken.  People asking for
		their ECS plots should be told this.  Break it to them
		gently.  No one know when it will be back up.

		There is a new exec_com.  There is a new mail system.
		
	Telecommunications Report:
		
		The Student Center LA36 is still sick.

		The Student Center LA36 dataset dial is broken.

		The ADM 3A arrived without lower case option, and
		today a field engineer came out and gave it lower case
		capability.  When we decide to move the terminal to
		the Student Center, we should call them and have them
		do it, since that is in our maintenance contract.

		The telecommunications budget proposal can make very
		little progress until more is known about the proposed
		relocation of the Center.

	Publications Report:

		There will be no publications from Honeywell for a
		while (including pocket guides) because they are
		moving their publications warehouse.

		Gnomon Copy has a $.04 per copy high quality (Xerox
		8400) service.

		Please comment on the new Emacs handout now on the
		blackboard.

	R/O Report:

		The computer tour will be on Friday, 5 September.

		The freshman letter is done and ready to be mailed.

	Other:

		Honeywell may soon announce Multics running on the DPS
		8/20.  It will only handle a dozen users, but it will
		mult.

		Honeywell is going into the office automation
		business.  They are aiming at Forutne 500 companies
		and we are pleased to hear that the proposed office
		system will be Multics based.

		We remember that Wes Burner wanted us to include
		something in our hardware budget proposal that defends
		centralised computing as opposed to scattered minis.

	Applications: 

		Tat-Ping Tsang should be watched: he may be doing
		thesis work.

		Jane Martini had $80 added to her Coop project.

		Markar Kevork Nahabedian wants $50 to hack.  Known
		loser.  Given.

		Total appropriations: $1070 without Coop
		  Autoed: $1020, all Student.
		  To Meeting: $50, all Student
		Coop: $80

	Other Other:

		RK went to a wargaming convention in Detroit and had a
		good time, except for the tornado.

		This weekend RDM, WMY, SEL, LAL and RLL went to see
		RMP and DGH get married.  The wedding took about 15
		minutes.

		Hon Wah Chin and Dan Weinreb are in town.  The Dehns
		(Joe and Natalie) were in town.

		J9 fixed the broken brake line on her car.

		The old Physical Plant person, Al, is now a night
		watchman at East Campus.  He had a wrestling match with
		Heather Preston, which he won 2 to 1.

	The meeting was adjourned at 2140.
