Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 4 August, 1980

	The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by William M. York.
		
	In attendance were WMY, RLL, SEL, Naha, ZRM, ALAN, BSG, GMP,
			   JSL, RK, JPT, c|, CWH, HGA, Marc Freedman (user)
			
	Late were: ACW,

	The minutes of the meeting of 7/28/80 were read and accepted as
	corrected.

	* Marc Freedman, macro engineering research process using
	* RDMS.  Writing RDMS user interface programs in PL/1.  Had
	* $350 already for this and other work.  Asking for another
	* $250.  Given.

	Chairman's Report:

		The chairman rewrote the policy statement to forbiud
		the purchase of manuals on Student funds.

		There was a party at the chairman's residence, at
		which the wild Bawden was hunted in the ancient,
		traditional Aborigine fashion.

		The chairman attempted to see Prof.
		Corbato-accent-over-the-last-o, but he is on vacation
		for the entire month of August.  So the Gray letter
		will be mailed without further consultation.

		RLL took over the chair, as the chairman had to leave.

	Treasurer's Report:

		 This month we have spent $1302.23.

	Office Report:

		We got a gross of quality ribbns in the mail.  We also
		got a shipment of quality-print paper.

		Further pertaining to the Spinwriter, there is a new
		catalog of available thimbles.

		Alan tried twice last week to look at the chairs at
		Cambrigdge Office Supply.  Both times the store was
		closed.  ZRM will try again this week.  So will Alan.

		GMP donated some three-ring binders to the office.

	Computer Services:

		The old hardware is slowly being shipped to Siberia.
		Farewell, old comerades.

		One of the new CPUs is not working.

	Telecommunications:

		The East Campus terminal was fixed.

		Everything is working at the Student Center.

		The Spinwriter has been called in for preventative
		maintenance. 

	Publications Report:

		The NETS came back from Beane.

		The Policy Statement was modified, sent to Beane, and
		retrieved.

		Five hundred form B's, and 250 form B.1's were printed
		up on goldenrod paper, which alas and alack does not
		foosh.

		JIS want and talked to the Publications office about
		people charging manuals to the Student account.  Duffy
		will get billed by the Institute, and we are supposed
		to get in touch with Dively.

		Penny copied the plot_ stuff do we can hand it to
		users. 

	R/O Report:

		ACW has yet to get around to starting to arrange the
		tour.

		Concourse Logo has a tiny amount of test code for the
		TV system.

		Plans are being made for our Midway presentation.  We
		will ask Roger to lend us the 4027.

		There was a meeting with IPS and BBN about where
		Clearinghouse will run this year.  It was decided to
		leave the status quo the way it is for this year and
		move to MIT, probably to the EE-20, next year.

	Other:

		GMP would like us to buy a modem for him so that he
		can get the MIT price break.  He will pay us back, of
		course.  Resolved.  Be it noted that GMP is now
		working for CISL.

		A graphics hardcopy device for the ADM-3 graphics
		terminal has been announced for $2000.  We will get
		more information.

	Applications:

		Tom Hayes wants an unspecified amount for preparing
		syllabi and exams for a course that he teaches at the
		Lowell Institute.  We do not know the relationship of
		the Lowell Institute to MIT, although we know that
		teachers are paid through MIT payroll.  Deferred to
		another meeting for more information.  Moved to send
		him to Wes for funding since this seems to fall
		outside our jurisdiction.  Passed.

		Kuo-Chih Chao wants $75 for general learning.  It was
		taken to meeting because he is a visiting professor.
		Given, even though he is probably a commie.

		Walter Srgent had $100 added to his Coop account.

		Jane Martini had $100 added to her Coop account.

		Mark Nabor wanted $150 to finish a report.  Taken to
		EC, given.  Total of $650.

		Bill Cattey wants $50 to do some term papers and some
		personal articles.  Given.

		Total appropriations: $1080 without Coop
		  Autoed Student: $555
		  EC: $150, all Student.
		  To Meeting: $375, all Student.

		Coop: $200

		Mr. Hayes came in at the end of the applications and
		was told to talk to Wes.



	Other Other:

		RK had a short conversation with a thunderstorm.

		JSL delivered WER's modem.

		SIPB is listed under "Other Services" in the IPS's new
		New User Guide.  The article is a little marginal.
		There may be a little picture of an insecticide can
		adorning our paragraphs.

	The meeting was adjourned at 21:20.
