Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 25 August 1980

	The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by William M. York.
		
	In attendance were WMY, J9, Naha, ACW, GMP, RLL, RDM, JPT.

	The minutes of the meeting of 18 August 1980 were read and accepted as
		corrected.

	*	Clifford J. Behmer for the Graduate Student Council
	*	wants $100 to continue running their accounting
	*	program.  This seems to be a yearly expense.  Given,
	*	with the recommendation that they try to fund this
	*	themselves next year.  They have an annual budget of
	*	$30,000.

	*	Neal Lippman is interested in becoming a member, and
	*	in ensuring that the Daily Confusion will have access
	*	to the Spinwriter in the wee small hours.  He was
	*	instructed concerning the former, and given a list of
	*	phone numbers to call in case the office is locked.

	Treasurer's Report:

		Month's spending to date is $5119.51, plus $700 for
		nbdd. 

		The treasurer spoke to Wes Burner, and we do not know
		our budget yet: apparently things are held up at a
		high administration, waiting for Chancellor Gray to
		really become President.

	Chairman's Report:

		The chairman moved.  Shawn Lampron is going to law
		school in New York.

		The Gray letter still has not been mailed.

	Office Report:

		Wechsler will return the office's plates.

		The office has another chair, because it was going to
		be thrown out by CISL.

		A few fluorescent light fixtures are not working.
		They were called in.

	Computer Services:

		There was a purge of Student storage.  1700 records
		were reclaimed.

		We should evaluate SIPB's portion of the AML, and come
		up with easy projects for people to do.

		It would not be possible to warn a user that their
		request will be deferred at the time the request is
		made, without writing new code and sticking a new
		front end  on the dprint command.  We are not sure
		whether or not to do this.

	Telecommunications:

		The student center line termini have been nicely
		mounted on a piece of wood.

		The Senior House dataset was found to have been
		tampered with.  Naha wrote a letter warning
		them that such tampering may force us to remove their
		equipment.  The letter will be sent.

		The Dean for Student Affairs office called.  They want
		a terminal for R/O week, as usual.  They specified
		that they weanted a TTY-43.  We will give them a
		terminal but it may be an LA36.		

	Publications Report:

		The new manuals for our terminal sites have not been
		distributed to those sites yet.

		The pocket guides have not yet arrived.  The new
		Guide to Multics Manuals (AN-50) with a very large
		glossary, exists.

		Maybe the EECS courses will use Lisp Notes.  If so,
		they had better tell us about it soon.

	R/O Report:

		We have official permission to visit the third floor
		on the tour.

		Other sites are being contacted.  We got 6-120 for 7
		p.m. on Friday 5 September.

		We need to arrange access to 39-530 for after the tour
		and for tghe Freshman Meeting.

	Other:

		Barry Margolin will be back in time to help with R/O.

		Jerry Lettvin has been informed that SIPB is not
		willing to undertake software projects as an organization.
		This is with regards to bringing up Unix on his PDP11/45.

		The University of South Louisiana Multics stayed up
		for fifteen days.  It was laid low by a weird LSLA bug.

		The Palterplexor has been dumped on Schiller and has
		changed into a Schillerplexor.

		We have to think about software for the terminal concentrator.

		It looks like we will have a general meeting for our
		user community sometime in November before
		Thanksgiving. 

	Applications:

		Student_House wants $120 on the Coop project to
		maintain their house accounting programs and data.
		Received a check for $120.  Given.

		Mensah, Anthony O. wants $150 to self teach himself
		the course material taught in 15.564, which he had
		dropped several terms ago.  Given.

		Turner, James paid another $15 on his Coop project.

		Sargent, William H. paid another $50 on his Coop
		project. 

		Nahabedian, Markar wants $10 on the Coop project for
		printing Unix sources on the x1200.  Given.

	Other Other:
		The ring net hardware is working at the ArqMaq.
		
		The office now has a copy of the Lyon's commentary on
		Unix source.

		There was a hemi-semi-demi-formal cocktail party at
		the Chairman's.

		The Chairman spent the weekend moving stuff from
		Milton to the new residence in Cambridge.

		The Secretary has a new apartment in Somerville.
