Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 22 December 1980

The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by Richard L. Lawhorn.

In attendance were WER, JSL, c|, J9, RLL, RK, ACW, GMP,
		CAH, and Bruce Nemnich.

The minutes of the meeting of 15 December 1980 were
		read and accepted as corrected.

We were introduced to Bruce Nemnich, who may be
		interested in becoming a member.

	Treasurer's Report:

So far this month we have spent $9899.73, of which
about $2100 is disk, $2800 was spent in the last week,
and $700 were spent last night.

	Chairman's Report:

RLL filled in for the Chairman at the CCE meeting.
Only Hulsizer, Corbato, Saltzer and RLL showed up.
They talked about word processing, trying to invent a
benchmark for guessing the cost of preparing a page of
		text.

It was mentioned at the CCE meeting that a truly naive
user is at a disadvantage when faced with a Multics.

They were originally going to discuss scientific
computing at this meeting, but did not get around to
it: they will do so at the next CCE meeting on 5
		January, 1980.

	Office Report:

		The office is a mess.

		We have soda.

The Multics Rates Chart was redone by Christman.

	Computer Services:

A cleanup will be done the first week in January.

Should members on the SIPBADMIN project have the same
password in MC as on Multics? Probably not, since
passwords on MC are not secure.

	Telecommunications Report:

		The LA 120 was fixed.

The Center is writing a quick reference guide to
available services, listing hours and so on. JSL told
them to list terminals that will be available at EECS.

	Publications Report:

The Gold Cards were printed. They had six typos and a
major omission. We spent $87.50 getting them printed.
		We will throw them out.

Should we try to enhance the contrast on the Dovered
original, and use that? The Camex original was
corrected and given back to PAE, and is probably now
in Dallas getting recamexed. It was decided that we
will not send the new Gold Cards to Beane until the
meeting or the EC approves them.

The person at Oakland University who ordered the Lisp
Notes was called and told that it was more convenient
for us to send them a master and have them copy it.
We will do that, and send them an accompanying letter
explaining that we are maintaining copyrights, etc.

	IAP Report:

We don't know how to register people on the 370 for
the Center courses. We had better figure this out and
find out what the special needs of the various courses
are. Wendy will contact Jay to find out.

Also, we will be able to give people taking Center
Multics courses the standard SIPB environment as long
as we provide a list of differences from the standard
		environment.

People taking Center courses will be given separate
storage quotas, and will have iacls of s and r to *.*.

Thus we will be able to give all of our Multics users
		the same environment.

	Applications:

John W. Miller wants $100 to learn PL1. He has had
$300 so far this year, doing labs. Given.

Josko Catapovic had $100 added to his Coop account.

Randy Race had $15 added to his Coop account.

Eric Sklar had $100 added to his Coop account.

Robert B. Tabakin had $100 added to his Coop account,
which was created by EC vote.

Michael K. Tamada had $50 added to a Coop account
which was created by HGA and JIS. The person is
taking a course normally given on the 370, but wants
to use Multics and will have funds transferred. Bobby
Burke will take care of the financial details.

		  Autoed: $1040, all Student.
