Minutes of the SIPB Meeting
		of 25 July 1983

	The meeting was called to order at 19:38 by Charles L. Marker.
	
In attendance were Jay, barmar, rk, clm, kam, cbf, amy, wcs.
		
Late were: jr

	The minutes of the meeting of last week were not read
	and accepted as corrected.

Martin St. George came in this week and payed us for the manuals
he bought on our account.

Peter L. Cheng: he was given two Student* accounts, as
PCheng and Cheng, and was also registered as PLCheng (but never
added to a project).  PCheng was the correct one, and most stuff
was fixed this evening.

	Treasurer's Report:

YTD/MTD Multics: $5,144.86
The YTD spending total that is being reported is wrong because
some of the projects were not zeroed at the beginning of the
year.  This is the ECS and Student projects.
SIPB/SIPBADMIN: $824.47 (16%)

	Chairman's Report:

The chairman is still in CA.  He keeps on logging in and leaving
detached processes.

	Computer Services:

Someone wants to know if we can fund use of the library's Computer
Literature Search service.  We would have to get permission from Wes
Burner, and the service is not really part of MIT (MIT subscribes to
this service).  At $30 per use, we could not really afford to do this
often.

JR came in at this point.

We did a clean_up of the Student?? hierarchies, of files that hadn't
been modified since 6/1/83.  The listing is in the file drawer.  On
August 1 RK will delete_user all the people who don't have current
accounts.

	Office Report:

The current procedure for doing JJ's work is: for Multics users, use
the "add_student" program; for CMS/JCF users, use add_cms_user or
add_jcf_user, respectively.

	Telecommunications Report:

The phones in the Student Center are scheduled to be moved from the old
room to the new room on August 12.  Peter Kelley doesn't want to bother
getting the StuCen Mux working if it is just going to have to move
right after.

RK spoke to Brian Herr about getting the phone lines to DuPont installed.  It
will be $40/line, and Pat Flynn at the registrar is willing to pay
half.  Four lines have been ordered.

	Publications Report:

NETS and NUMS went to Beane today.

	R/O Report:

R/O is getting even closer than IAP (for some value of closer).

Paul sent out mail asking if people thought places should be added or
deleted from the tour, and this caused much flaming about the
Electronic Music Studio and CIPG.  CBF suggests that we take them to
the Mech.E. microcomputer lab.  The meeting continued the flaming about
EMS and CIPG.  Perhaps we should talk to Prof. Troxel and see if they
can get someone else to do the CIPG demo.

RK says that we should make sure that at least one of the leaders of
each tour group should be a full-time student.

The sentiment here is that we should show the W91 machine room if we
can.  We should talk to Leo Ryan to see if he'll let us in, and someone
should look into renting a van to cart the kiddies over.

	Other:

There was much discussion about what Jay will be doing and where he
will be living later this year.  Jay wouldn't say.

	Other Other:

Bruce Nemnich brought up Unix on the IPS VM system.

KAM would like to find someone who knows how to cook cous-cous.

CLM and BIM will be going on a 150-mile bike-a-thon in two weeks.
Send them pledges.

There will be a going-away party for Bill and Shawn this Saturday.

There will be a 50-mile bike trip this Sunday.  Talk to CLM for more
information.

	The meeting was adjourned at 20:21 to cake & brownies.
