Minutes of the SIPB Meeting
		of April 1, 1985

	The meeting was called to order at 7:34 p.m. by PLJ.
	
In attendance were : BG, Carla, PLJ, Simsong, Vince, Aya, Jim, WHBH, RF, DJB,
 Ken, JTK, Tim, MW, JR, DFM and three prospectives: Peter, George, and Nicholas


		TREASURER'S REPORT

	month-to-date student spending: 2748.07
	year-to-date student spending: 236,428.29
	
          month-to-date sipb/sipbadmin spending: 809.08
          year-to-date  sipb/sipbadmin spending: <69,976.28

We aren't going to run out of money if we keep Shift 1 restricted.
	

		CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

There is no chairman.  We decide to impeach the chairman.  The vote is
unanimous.  Yay!  Now we have to elect a new chairman.  WHBH nominates
Aya.  Carla seconds the nomination.  Aya accepts.  RF nominates DFM.
DFM declines.  Simsong nominates himself, but he also declines.  We
have a vote.  We elect Aya.  Yay! 
April Fool's Day!!!  JR is still chairman.
	
                    ATHENA REPORT

Dan and Jon wrote a document "Whither Thou Goest, SIPB?" which describes
our new mission now that Athena is going fairly strong.
We made the Scribe server proposal and the modem proposal.  We hope to
get at least six lines on Ringworld.  [JR and DFM walk in]  
Cec distributed our proposals.  They will be discussed at a management
meeting tomorrow.  Peter Kelly goes to management meetings now.
[MW just came in.]  Thirty people on Charon haven't been sponsored and
will be punted on Wednesday night.  Charon is not for modem access or
Chaosnet access; it is for software development and other useful purposes.
Some evil process tried to purge every user on Charon.  etc>password died or
something, but PLJ was signed on and replaced it with a copy.

		OFFICE REPORT

There is a corporate-to-corporate tangle preventing completion of the
Hyperdrive purchase.

                    SOCIAL COMMITTEE REPORT

The shirts will be coming on about April 18.  There is more soda in the office
now.  They were out of Tahiatian Treat.  We had to sign a check for Coke and
RK wasn't here, so we had to change the signature card and now he isn't on it.
Pepsi might come tomorrow, the check is in the desk.   An end-of-the-term
party is now in the planning stage. [Applause]

		COMPUTER SERVICES

Ken claims to have a mostly working Scribe server.
We should not give Multics accounts for things that can be done on Athena.
Next year's budget should be the same as the initial budget this year.

JR overheard a prefrosh say he really loved MIT.
Simsong is giving microelectronic telekinesis experiments, Wednesday and
Thursday from 3:30 to 5:00 in the Man-Machine Laboratory, 3-347.  Please

Carla and BG went to see Prince in Upstate New York and went to Montreal
for three hours.  Simsong said something about a PDP-something that fits
under a desk.  There is a hack Athena newsletter.
