Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of Mon 16 Sept, 1985. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The meeting was called to order at 19:35 by RF. In attendance were Voting members: RF, spook, bcn, Henry, Anand, tim, mer, the SCHUN, peter, amy, irene Prospectives: ntchang, Annette, Livia, Dennis Federico, Brandy Bechtel, Dave Jedlinsky, Mark Lillibridge, Stan Zanarotti Treasurer's Report: Student MTD: $ 1348.15 Student YTD: $ 8915.09 SIPB/SIPBADMIN: $ 1,352.99 SIPB/SIPBADMIN: $ 12,176.29 Even though SIPB/SIPBADMIN is still more than Student, it's getting better. We spent $458.18 last week whereas Students spent $ 579.73. Still, we should try to cut down some. We have the suggestion boxes but they are not distributed yet because the treasurer doesn't know where the terminals rooms are or what their combinations are. The treasurer will call the freshmen who have expresed interest in SIPB but haven't been around the office. If you want more soda, PAY COKE-COM!!! Chairman's Report: There was an ACRB meeting which our chairman attended. They talked about how to distribute software for 9700 ($.03 / page). Decided to distribute software in /usr/unsupported/sipb. The documentation should tell users that it exists and to come to us for help. bugs: not very sure of reliability yet. Software developement needed, i.e. staff shouldn't need to pay; arrangements with how to handle output pickup. RF doesn't think we will handle the cash payments of the printouts, but this has to be decided before distribution. Also, we should reimburse users for bad drafts because the software is not quite debugged or documented yet. Athena should pick up the 9700 software by January. RF wants to do these things by Fri: documentation and testing, addendum to underground guide inclding 9700, examples of papers that are correct for 9700. Anybody that is willing to do this should talk to RF. Other software things also nees to be done: talk to RF or Ken. The documentation, however, should be here *before* Fri. Athena will switch to gnu-emacs in Jan. We are getting 8 modems in mid Oct. Also, we need article for the November newsletter. We would like a 258-SIPB type number for users to dial for help. Still no serial port for IBM PC. Now is the time... (to vote on Nancy Chang) Nancy (after *the* question): It's a good way to help people and I want to learn things. Yes: 8 No: 1 She is, to her chagrin, the newest member of the SIPB. Office Report: It's getting messier. Throw away paint. Put big blue knapsacks, coats, etc. in the corner by the windows. Remove your old junk!!! Athena Report: Current Athena person (the SCHUN) doesn't think he will have enough time to deliver the responsibility properly so he hereby steps down from the post. Tim voluteers and is duly appointed. Computer Services: With regards to backup, retrieval: Ken: Use rr to retrieve people's files. Lets create a general directory under SIPB or somewhere to put retrieved files in. That way users don't have to find the particular person who retrieved their files to get back their stuff. We cannot bring back accounts for file retrieval because we have no mechanism for deleting acccounts or getting rid of storage records, etc. Henry: should I discourage undergrads who want to learn pl1? Try to make sure they are really interested in pl1, but don't. Telecommunications Report: Chairperson is a at choral society meeting. We have to get rid of all the printing terminals. Publications Report: We need more underground guides. Please use graphic arts to make more documentations whenever needed. R/O Report: nil IAP Report: Any volunteers to teach a course? Other: Chaos: Thanks to bcn, minits is back. He replaced a broken chaosnet board. The meeting was adjourned at 20:11. Minutes taken and submitted by mer. Thank you for reading the Minutes.
