Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 12/3/90


	The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by amgreene.

	Chairman's Report:

		Golly gee....

		Oh wait... there is a list of prospectives (by username)
on the red announcements board (the one with the clock): amgreene humbly
requests that prospectives who see their name up there to send him their
real world names to be listed along with their usernames. Current
members should get to know these prospectives. 

		ASA meeting tomorrow night that kkkken volunteered to
represent SIPB at.

		warlord nominates rls for membership. cjsmith seconds.
It passes. It will wait until after IAP, since it's the end of the term,
etc etc. 

	Office Report:

		amgreene cleaned off the red bulletin board, removing
non-essentials and old stuff. He also sectioned it off. Happy campers.
(What this means, adds Andrew to the minutes while Julie isn't looking,
is that the red bulletin board should be kept UNCLUTTERED, and outdated
things should be TAKEN DOWN, and people should check it when they come
in to see if there's anything new and interesting.  Like maybe a project
that people need help with.)

		leira needs help carrying the terminals sitting under the
table down to her car.  jtkohl and rlcarr volunteer to help.

	MIT Computing Report:

		7.2 is in friendly test.  Up to 7.2C.

		Athena got $40,000 from sale of 750s. 

		Major lossage today in the connection from pepsi to w20.

	Computer Services:

		NeXT: Drive stopped working last week, suddenly. The
warranty, if any, is past. erikkay suggests that we take down to MCC to
see if they can repair it for free anyway, since NeXT is being nice
because the OpDisks are crap. So, klee will take it down sometime this
week.

		Upgrading, if they make us pay, will cost less than
buying an 040 upgrade and 3.5'' 2.88Meg floppies. Discussions and
suggestions should take place over the mailing list.

		Amiga: Bill-of-sale wait until after Winter Break.

		ClariNet has started. Yeah!!  (And thanks to those
responsible)

		386 ping for dkk... what's going on??

		We NEED fast VAXen!! Maybe we can convince Athena that
it would be a good thing for SIPB to have fast VAXen to provide builds
in sipb/vaxbin.  amgreene will ask roden.

		marc suggests that we don't print on the LaserWriter
from the Mac.  People are frobbing the wires and knobs... it breaks
easily. Black holes and whatnot.  The summary:  if you aren't certain
that you know what you are doing, DON'T do it!

		Out of LaTeX? Yes. New version is ready and fxzane will
get copies made.

		IAP Guides came out today... Confusion reigns in its
pages... But we have lots of stuff. We should put stuff on the outside
bulletin board.

	CokeComm Report:

		Who ordered the Coke???? No clue. 1) Don't order from
Coke. 2) Don't pay for Coke deliveries.
