Treasurer's Report: she's not here. (she showed up) jhawk: The Treasurer went home [from the med center] last week on Wednesday, I think, last week. yoav: I'd like to move for the new Stroustroup C++ book. Move to allocate $70 for the new C++ book. White-balloted. yoav will deal. Chairman's Report: yoav: shabby and I worked on the guest accounts thing, there are now two files; guest-accounts now only contains names that should be checked up on occasionally, such as sponsored accounts. Now there's member-guest-accounts, which are for people sponsored by SIPB, who are members, including charon accounts. Double-check it, there are people there from, like, 1923. shabby nominates cordelia for membership. he accepts, vote is unanimous. There will be elections next week for Andy and Ping. rjbarbal: I need to talk to Greg about Bylaws stuff. There'll be a poll-type thing that everyone should respond to sometime this week. Office Report: mib: The office is a pit. Shut up, mib. rjbarbal: If you spill something in the fridge, clean it up. yoav: We should become UTP'ed RSN. ghudson: We need to get out of the office Friday during the day for this to take place; we should clean up Thursday night. MIT Computing Report: rshah: The W20 cluster will also be rewired for UTP and parts may be off-limits for a while. Computer Services: yandros: The SIPB locker reorg happened, I didn't do it on the active SIPB locker, it's currently in /afs/sipb/project/sipb-new. Look at it and send comments to me. ghudson: I announced installation of octave, a Matlab clone, on all the platforms you care about. It does most of what Matlab does. ghudson: I plan to take down old-rosebud, the RS/6k, since we planned to keep it up 'til Spring Break, and it's Spring Break. yoav: send mail to cfyi explaining the possibility of delays and stuff. jhawk: Have you considered that it might take longer to get the CellServDB change to go through since probe isn't here? mhpower: It's getting to be time to remove references to USA Today from the news server. If you know anyone who's relying on USA Today, they should let us know right away. mhpower: There's occasionally been a problem on the news server with old clients keeping the history file open. Two comments on this. 1) I don't think this would happen under NT. 2) We have a script that will randomly kill processes as news, and it runs in the early morning, there's a slight risk that people might lose connections in the early morning. SIPB Backup Report: Someone should do an AFS backup this week, since no one seems to have done it last week. cordelia: We got a new cleaning tape. ghudson: did you do that? cordelia: yes All non-AFS machines were backed up. Publications Report: ghudson: did we get iLaTeX yet? yandros: bert was supposed to do final editing, and my guess is it didn't get done. sipb7: Anything ever happen with iFrameMaker? jhawk: I made this list of things to do, and it's in /afs/sipb/user/jhawk/iFrame.todo cordelia: alpha version of iAthena will be out by the end of the week.
