Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 12/25/95


	The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by ghudson.

	In attendance were

	Treasurer's Report:
		She's taking a nap.

	Chairman's Report:

		We're not there

	MIT Computing Report:
		There will be a bunch of shutdowns this week

	Computer Services:
		ghudson: The NetBSD 1.1-based SIPB installation is complete 
			 and ready for testing; don't recommend it, 
			 but test it.
			Hopefully will be ready for the IAP course
		mhpower: Inews in the sipb locker changed for DECs; 
			   people who recently posted articles on DECs
			   won't be able to easily cancel them. 
			 This change means people in the future will 
			   be able to cancel posts on different platforms
			    than they were posted on.
		mhpower: There might be a news server shutdown
			  this week to add more swap space.

	SIPB Backup Report:
		jweiss: Everything was done last week except 
			  for /slush on picayune
			not sure if they will be done this week.

	Publications Report:
		None here

	R/O Report:

	IAP Report:
		ghudson (for amehta): Move we allocate $700 for
			copying fees for IAP Crash Course in C
		mwhitson: What does our budget look like?
		ghudson:  Our discretionary budget looks something like
			    this, but we don't know for sure yet:

		        $10,000
		    -	  3,700	allocated for PC
		    -	  2,500	projected ceiling on tape drive cost
		    -	    700	copying fee for C course
		    -	  1,000	projected ceiling on other office costs
 			 -------
			  2,100

		jweiss:  The ceiling on "other office costs" might be too low.
		ghudson: I think our discretionary budget is somewhat 
			  higher than listed above.

		Motion Passes: 7-0-2

		mwhitson: We should suggest they get their funding 
			   elsewhere next year
		yoav:    I think this is a good FTGOS type of service 
		mhpower: I agree, how are they going to write a kernel
		 	 if they don't know C
		ghudson: We can't decide this now, I'll tell them that
			 since the service is less connected to SIPB
			 now, they should be aware that we might not
			 choose to fund them in the future


	CokeComm Report:
		Lots of Coke products, but we can't get to it.

	Other:
		yoav:   Snow Sucks
 		Proven: All his kadmin work was lost due to a disk crash 
		Marc:   I'm running off my secondary brain
		Shabby: My secondary brain's display shattered so I
			  sent it in to be repaired.
