Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 4/14/1997 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by kretch. In attendance were Voting members: yonah, yoav, amu, kretch, emhavens, hartmans, amsmith, danw, fastcart Associate members: eichin, mcmullan, srz, jtkohl, ghudson, yandros, tlyu, jweiss, mhpower, jemorris Non-voting members: Prospectives: jmorzins, Martin Peck, cmceniry Guests: Treasurer's Report: kretch: The PO for quantum should work now. ghudson: sit and I looked over an account statement, and even after buying the Sparc4 and the Mac, we have about $3000 (which should be enough for a monitor). Chairman's Report: '() Office Report: jweiss: Did we get the toner? kretch: Yes kretch: We have a new Macintosh. It's sitting where gene-simmons used to be. ghudson: I move to allocated $1k to buy a 17" monitor for the new Mac. [second] jweiss: Did anybody look into using a Sun monitor, or did we decide we didn't want to? ghudson: No action was taken on that, and I think having a 17" monitor which would work on PC's wouldn't be a bad thing anyway. [passes 12-1-2] MIT Computing Report: jweiss: If all goes as planned, two weeks from tomorrow you will no longer be able to access the rel-eng cell. Computer Services: ghudson: We sort of lost a disk on reynelda, and had problems with the other. We haven't seen any evidence of damage on the disk which had a stopped fan. The other one was logging errors, but spun up again when mycroft played with it. All the data is off of it, and we're not sure what to do with it. hartmans: We didn't do anything to make that fan work longer. jweiss: We have a dead disk from ronald-ann which should be tested. ghudson: Orders are underway for the new Sparc cpu and the new Sparc20 for the webserver. SIPB Backup Report: hartmans: The DLT drive still isn't working. Someone should deal with calling falcon and making it disappear. tlyu: I didn't deal; I will remove it from the office to E40 for shipping tonight. jweiss: I have a backup as of last week of all the data except about 44 volumes which were on the disk which failed. I will try another backup tomorrow. Publications Report: amsmith: I left 25 copies of an ATIC info sheet I wrote in the office. ghudson: We're out of Installing NetBSD and Installing Linux. R/O Report: hartmans: When do we need to start dealing with R/O? kretch: Good point. I'll deal with making sure we get something into the ASA book of activities. Will find out more. IAP Report: '() CokeComm Report: srz: Two six-packs of coke left. Other: mhpower: I heard that a new small cluster opened in building 36 today. I'm told that the cluster was not on any particular floor. hartmans: There are rumors that an internet draft replacing 1310 (Kerberos 5) may exist. fastcart: Drop date is Thursday. jweiss: Next Thursday. amsmith: When will the AFS clue dump happen? kretch: When jered and hartmans are less hosed (around drop date).
