Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 05/19/97 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by kretch. Chairman's Report: mycroft: I move to create the position of official SIPB dork to be filled by the chair. Office Report: jhawk: Steve dallas's head blew up and now we have a new one. Bobbie has two heads and has my CG3 on semi-permanent loan. danw: Steve's monitor is still having a video problem. Danw and ghudson disagree about whether it is the same as the previous problem. kretch: I tried to catch Rose twice this week about carpeting, will deal later this week. marc: It is spring; it starting to get warm. I would like to recommend that we leave a few ceiling tiles out of place unless we plan to talk to physplant. jhawk: The temperature in the office tends to be variable. If you are cold or warm, you can move and it often helps. marc: The increased ventilation may make things more consistent. marc: Move to allocate up to $30 to get a min/max thermometer. [second; white ballot object.] mhpower: I think the problem is not always the temperature but the air flow. yandros: Why do we care what the temperature is? People will sometimes be cold or warm. [many-few-few] rjbarbal: Discussion about replacing blankets. mhpower: We may consider using SIPB auction money. mycroft: This may make people feel more comfortable sleeping in the office which is something we want to discourage. MIT Computing Report: ghudson: 8.1.1 coming to selected fileservers near you. Computer Services: yonah: I think we should have a webmaster meeting soon; I'll send mail. yonah: I haven't heard any suggestions for web server names besides wicked-witch-of-the-west. hartmans: Yonah, do you think you have the authority to violate the naming scheme and do this? yonah: no. hartmans: I move to punt the naming scheme. [second] pipa: I was under the impression that there was a naming scheme for all SIPB machines. I would like to suggest giant-radioactive-salamanders. jhawk: I would like to remind the SIPB of transactions 2715, 3021 in sipb-staff. ghudson: I think it has been traditional that SIPB leaves these issues up to the server maintainers. Thus, I object. hartmans: I only made the motion after asking. [ghudson understands.] mycroft: Move to can discussion on this issue. [second white-ballot; discussion closed.] hartmans withdraws motion having been convinced that server maintainers do in fact have this authority already. SIPB Backup Report: yonah: The SCSI transport for AFS backups was not happy. Someone with more clue should look at it. sit: Server backup happened.
