Chairman's Report: jhawk: It sucks when people repeat actions which caused complaints to be sent to us (re: rusers and rpcinfo -p connections to amoeba.sdsc.edu). Office Report: mycroft: There are random clothing items in the back of the office. kretch: Kevin Fu sent me mail saying that he's out of the state for quite a while and is looking for a volunteer to deal with the Pilot cable we allocated money for. danw: It's in my SIPB drawer. We don't have the converter thing for it, but you can plug it into any machine with the right kind of serial port. jhawk: If someone knows where the office rock is, I would like to know. kretch: I made a volume machine.office and mounted it on /afs/sipb.mit.edu/machine/office, populated with a flattened directory structure; it will be reorganized soon. A lot of things are way out of date; I'm going to try and clean it up soon. If people know about specific undocumented hacks on machines, let me know. MIT Computing Report: ghudson: There will be another patch release to 8.1 going out tonight. Current schedule is that early will go out next Monday night, but there's some possibility that might slip. svalente: Expect there to be a new SIPB locker before the next meeting. Computer Services: mycroft: I have a suggestion for the name of the new web server: dandelion-patch [stealing the laptop name] with a cname of world-wide-weed. jweiss: A 4GB disk destined for penguin-lust showed up today. ghudson: A second processor for beacon arrived this past week. jweiss: Anyone know of any hardware on the server budget which has not been ordered or has not arrived? [No.] Good. SIPB Backup Report: kretch: AFS backups didn't happen last week because they didn't work. It doesn't appear to be cables. tlyu: Don't discount cables. foley: Non-AFS backups were all done except for one failed partition which I'll redo.
