I was interested in seeing if something could be done about it. kretch: the new carpet is one way we're dealing. kcr: it appears that the office floor hasn't been vacuumed in quite some time, this may be contributing to the problem. Maybe we should get the frequency of vacuuming increased. kretch: will do. sepherke: Move to allocate $30 to purchase 2nd edition of "Java in a Nutshell" which covers Java 1.1. [second, white-ballot, she will deal] kcr: I move to allocated up to $200 to buy shelves for the rack. [second] jweiss: what are you planning to use the rack for? where are you going to put it? kcr: In this room... I'll defer to yandros. yandros: It would be premature to specify a location in the office. mhpower: what evidence do we have that its stable enough? jweiss: I've done chin-ups on it. kretch: That rack is designed to be bolted into the floor, but we're not going to do that, obviously... kcr: ...but it's also designed to hold really heavy stuff... nocturne: I think its a bad idea unless we bolt it down. kcr: Ok... I withdraw the motion. I move to have Alex remove it then. [not-seconded.] [some random discussion ensues, we punt] jdaniel: MacOS 8 is out or will be out soon. Should we get it? yandros: MIT has a site license. I'll see if I can get it. MIT Computing Report: jweiss: There will be an 8.1 patch release for Sun and SGI tonight. It fixes a bunch of bugs. kretch: Notably, it fixes the Sun xterm bug. mwhitson: The printer ajax is now being served from the test print server hobbes. (See mail to sipb-office.) If users come in with questions about ajax in particular, send information to me. Unless there are objections, I will send out mail with that as "the date". sit: I believe that regular returns are after that; maybe we should wait until after that. jweiss: it may also be hard to get enough shepards before people get back. jewell: I'll send mail. If anyone has a UROP or lab that they'd like to show off, or if anyone wants to be a tour guide, let me know. IAP Report: '() CokeComm Report: '() Other: mhpower: Someone sent mail to sipb about 10 days ago about hard drive recovery. It builds it's own cpp. Other Other: jered: One; much to my surprise, my room didn't completely melt down while I was gone for 2 weeks. Two; Simson Gar...oh nevermind, I don't want that in the minutes. amsmith: The ATIC lab wants to hire people who are clueful about NT. If you fall into this category, contact Kathy Cahill. eichin: rec.humor.funny is ten years old this week. nygren: I have a place to live.
