Most people prefer having space for food, notebooks, etc. mhpower: I don't think two monitors for one person is a good use of the space in the office. bert: Unless we put it in the birds nest. jered: There are situations where having two monitors is useful. jewell: Sounds like people aren't interested. jhawk: I'll be moving dt from beta Solaris 2.6 to release Solaris 2.6. Office Cleaning Report: kretch: Looks like cleaning happened. MIT Computing Report: danw: test.dialup is testing an sshd that works with Athena. It is also testing a v5 telnetd. If these work, they'll go on the other dialups. I'll send out mail when source is available. pipa: po8 fell over on Friday. amu: People were sending packets that made a lot of linux machines go down. There is a patch out and people should apply it. jweiss: Does linux-dev have any plans to put out a binary patch or rpm? amu: We're waiting for Redhat to release something. jweiss: If they don't do so in the near future, linux-dev should consider doing one on their own. amu: Okay. nygren: If people have any ideas on the pattern of machines they've been attacking, I'd be interested in hearing about it. jered: jis is having a bad day. mhpower: Friday was a monumental day - MITVMA terminal access was discontinued. jhawk: Is this documented somewhere? mhpower: MITVMA system status report. I updated the money part of the accounts this afternoon If there's something wrong with your balance and you didn't get e-mail notifying you of an update, come talk to me. And send me e-mail if you give me money, or it doesn't count. Other: svalente: Two interesting things about Mklinux: First, you can crash the system by hitting CTRL-G about 18 times. Second, at least one major company has released commercial software for it. mjv: I'm the main Mac programmer for IS. We have DR1 of Rhapsody for the PowerPC and Intel. There's been an interest in putting Rhapsody on one of the Macs in the SIPB office, but there are some complications. Technically, IS is under an NDA with Apple. Actually, you're all under an MIT-wide NDA with Apple but you don't know it. On the other hand, there are several public mailing lists for discussing Rhapsody where Apple engineers answer questions. So, we'd like to bring Rhapsody for the PowerPC over. You probably need more memory. ghudson: Are they actually marketing Rhapsody for Intel? There might be interest in that. mjv: Yes, but we're short on media for it. jered: This would make the Mac have the most OSes in the office. svalente: It already does - it has 3. jewell: What are IS's plans for Rhapsody. mjv: IS is evaluating Rhapsody. marc: For SIPB it's just to play with. jhawk: Binary only? mjv: Yes. jered: If we're serious about this, we should get another machine. ghudson: Where would we put it? jered: We could get a monitor switcher and stack the machine. svalente: As the primary BeOS/Mklinux developer, I think it's okay to have it all on the same machine. ghudson: It might be nice to have another piece of hardware, but we probably want to wait until late spring to think about it. jhawk: Why do we need another machine for this? jweiss: Gene wont run Rhapsody. jered: Is 1GB really enough for Rhapsody? mjv: meeroh is using a 1GB drive - ask him. ghudson: Move to allocate up to $200 to buy an additional 32 MB RAM for the Mac. [Seconded. Motion passes many-1-4.] pipa: Maybe someone could send out mail describing Rhapsody? danw: If you're interested in learning about Rhapsody, just ask someone who's hacking on it. yandros: Wilfredo Sanchez (tritan) is now working on Rhapsody for apple. He'd probably be a good person to talk to if you're serious about hacking. jered: Is there an X Server for it? mjv: I don't know. mjv: Use your best judgement with respect to the NDA. kretch: Should we keep this out of the minutes? mjv: Technically, but... jered: I'd like to point out that I'm somewhat disturbed by the laissez-faire attitude towards this NDA versus when we discussed Netscape source a month ago. mhpower: Suppose someone wearing a suit asks what the software is. What should we do? jhawk: Just say what it is, it's not a big deal.
