Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 12/8/97


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by kretch.

Office Report:

	elliot: I'm still working on getting shelves for the rack, but the
		distributor I'm dealing with is being lame. If you have
		contact information for other distributors, give it to me.

	ghudson: We have more memory in milquetoast, and rhapsody installed
		on it.

	kcr: Move that as a guideline, people should be limited to one-half
		of one of those medium-sized filing cabinet drawers at back
		of the office opposite the fridge.
	ghudson: I don't think there's anyone here who wouldn't be willing
		to share a drawer if they were asked.
	kcr: I sent mail about this, and only got one response.
	jweiss: Is there anyone who's using a whole drawer?
	gutnik: There are drawers with only one name.
	amsmith: My understanding is the issue was having to do with not
		having space for SIPB cables. Can you explain?
	kcr: We used to have drawers for SIPB cables but now they're being
		used by members.
	jweiss: We used to have 2 or 3 more drawers in the cabinets for
		storing cables. At some point I cleaned them up, and then
		people claimed them as personal drawers.
	[Post-meeting clarification from jweiss:
          In case this isn't clear, by cleaning, I meant straightening
          up, not emptying such that members could claim them.  The
          members emptied the drawers and claimed them without
          consulting me.  I also mentioned that I was bothered by the
          fact that members though it was appropriate for them to
          displace SIPB stuff for their own personal drawer space.]
	ghudson: I think there's been a lack of leadership by the office
		czar in dealing with these people. If the office czar system
		doesn't	work we should deal with this with motions.
	kcr:	There was a coup and I'm the office czar now, btw.
	ghudson: The secretary should clean out the cruft at the back.
	kretch: People shouldn't claim drawers with SIPB stuff in them without
		talking to someone first.
	[Seconded. Motion passes many-0-4.]

Office Cleaning Report:

	kretch: We cleaned. In fact, we had almost everything that was 
		movable	out in the hall and vacuumed the floor.
	ghudson: There's a photograph of the office completely empty
		somewhere.
	kcr: It's in the Save In Case Of Fire box.

MIT Computing Report:

	kcr: Ops lost another disk.

SIPB Backup Report:

	kretch: The DLT is losing in interesting fashions; it ate 
		sipb-all-full-1. The exabyte supposedly works now, at least 
		for uncompressed tapes.

IAP Report:

	eichin: The pilot course seems to be popular - people are
		preregistering even though we don't have preregistration.
		Ed Keyes, the author of Hackmaster and other cool pilot
		stuff will be teaching one-half hour of the course.
	elliot: The Internet course is taking preregistrations, and we've
		got 19 so far.

	amu: I really need people to help me with the linux class.
		Please send me e-mail.

CokeComm Report:

	pipa: If people notice flavours of their liking are missing, they
		should e-mail me. I just received a CokeComm chequebook 
		dated March 1986.
