Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of March 13, 2000

The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by nathanw.

In attendance were

Treasurer's Report:

	   sly: We were being billed for an Appletalk zone.  We aren't
	   anymore.  People should talk to me if they need to be
	   reimbursed for anything.

Chairman's Report:

	   nathanw: I had a dream last night where I was conducting this
	   meeting, and midway through the office emptied of everything
	   except for the monoliths and bookshelves.  Then Rose walked
	   in and offered to vacuum.

Office Report:

	   marc: People should keep in mind that the manner in which
	   they behave in and around the office reflects upon the SIPB.

	   gisele: Whiteboards are good, and the one in the back isn't
	   convenient.  I move to spend up to $75 to buy a whiteboard
	   that can be velcro'd to a wall and also moved around so it
	   can be used while you're sitting at a machine.

	   kcr: More whiteboards are good.

	   jhawk: We have available wall space.

	   kcr: Near the door would be most convenient, but the
	   thermostat is in the way.

	   goodell: Do you believe that there's a need for people to be
	   able to move the whiteboard so they can use it while they're
	   sitting down?

	   gisele: I was hoping for something medium sized so people
	   could draw pictures or work together while sitting at a
	   machine.

	   kcr: What purpose does a whiteboard serve that a piece of
	   paper doesn't?

	   gisele: My brain works better with them.

	   jweiss: Supposedly, the filter people came without warning
	   today to replace the filters, and couldn't because nothing
	   was moved out of the way.  I'll be talking to them so they
	   come back and actually do something.

	   fyfer: steve-dallas had its monitor replaced by hotline
	   today.

	   jhawk: The new gray 747 seems to be missing.

	   nathanw: Was it missing last week?

	   jhawk: Not to my knowledge.

	   sly: Did we ever talk to someone about getting the door
	   fixed?

	   jhawk: How is it broken?

	   sly: The door is hard to open. 

	   jhawk: Oh, the lock.  No, we haven't reported it.  I'll deal.


Office Cleaning Report:

           nathanw: There was a spontaneous cleaning announced this
           weekend; I don't know if anything actually happened.

	   gif: It actually got cleaned when cfox announced it.

MIT Computing Report:

	   zacheiss: Sometime this week, depending on my hosage, the
	   default Athena user quota will increase to 50 MB.

	   zacheiss: I did them.

Publications Report:

	   gif: iLaTeX should be showing up tomorrow.

	   zacheiss: We should get an R/O sucker soon.

Other:

	   xela: I am now a domain name registrar.  I'm cheap.

	   kcr: You should talk to dkk.  What are your prices?

	   xela: $15 for the first domain, $12.50 for every domain
	   thereafter.

	   kcr: Can we switch registrations over to you?

	   xela: Not yet.

	   deberg: There's this I-Opener thing for $99 at Circuit City.
	   I'm going to try and order a dozen of them.  Talk to me if
	   you want one.

	   jweiss: huh?

	   nathanw: It's a diskless PC that can run a real OS for less
	   than $100.

	   tibbetts: The key office has office keys again.

Other Other:

	   kcr: Boston drivers are nuts.  This is not news.

	   gamache: I dreamt last night that I was home in NH and I
	   saw a couple of the neighborhood dogs, and they were dead,
	   with the shell of their skin split open by an incision the
	   length of their back.  I don't know what this means.

	   kcr: I got mail from a Boston Phoenix reporter who wanted to
	   look at Grey17 and write a story about it.
