Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 02/26/2001 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by fyfer. In attendance were Voting members: fyfer ingolia alex_c amu kolya sly arolfe gif Associate members: belmonte jweiss hartmans zacheiss cana jhawk | leira Non-voting members: Prospectives: aletta int18 and Guests: Treasurer's Report: Chairman's Report: Office Report: Office Cleaning Report: sly: It looks kinda pit-like. Is the fish working? hartmans: I remember thinking the fish was going off at a stupid time (saturday afternoon). Was anyone here? ingolia: In theory, it fingers the office machines and makes sure that 5 people are here, but doesn't necessarily check that they're logged in on the consoles. fyfer: People should bring down the bins of recyclable bottles (deposit bottles). Cans too. MIT Computing Report: jhawk: The network is falling over on a regular basis. This appears to be an internal problem zacheiss: The zephyr link to CMU is still down. It may be back later this week. Computer Services: kolya: Our new server almost ran out of swap space earlier today, but nothing bad seemed to happen. jhawk: Something went wrong with multics, but we don't know what it is. belmonte: We need a new drinky-bird. fyfer: I'll address that in other hartmans: What's holding up the sipb-linux installer release? sly: We could release it as it is. We're testing. There are problems with certain 3COM cards and we're trying to find a failing card to work with. But this requires taking down snork, which has difficulties of its own, like people being logged in and needed to change network cards. fyfer: Is there a plan to desupport 5.2 when the installer is released? jweiss: Yes. When the installer is released, we can pick a desupport date. sly: Did the pullups for the 6.2 updates happen? zacheiss: No, this weekend. sly: So we're not installing the redhat security updates. fyfer: If anyone knows of a perl script to make OED useful, it would be cool if we could install it in outland. SIPB Backup Report: zacheiss: AFS happens on its own. UFS tonight Publications Report: fyfer: I think we have everything. Is there a linux doc? jhawk: No Orientation Report: IAP Report: CokeComm Report: fyfer: sucks gif: Dereferencing a null pointer. I don't know if there will be a new one. marc is lame already. He said he'd give me a decission in 24 hours. That was 3 weeks ago. fyfer: Anyone want to be cokecomm? jweiss: Talk to gif if you're interested. Other: hartmans: Move to commend alex_c for his thoughtful murder of the drink-birds. fyfer: I have a spare, though I haven't heard lots of objections to the disappearance. But we need fungicide to put in its water. belmonte: It took a long time for them to get fungus encrusted. hartmans: No, it just took a long time for people to deal. The only conditions that I wouldn't object to is if we test the fungicide to make sure it doesn't have problems of its own and if it's made very clear by the maintainers that people could throw away the drinky-bird if the maintainers don't do their job. fyfer: I'm not sure there's a good solution . jhawk: No one's been unlame enough to do an autopsy yet. gif: This is so sad. It is very pathetic Other Other: jhawk: Ted Johnson is leaving CAC for the president's office. fyfer: cana, why do you have a balloon on your head? sly: I learned that when take up reels on projectors break, film does impressive things cana: I have become a citizen of the People's republic of cambridge. The meeting was adjourned at 19:40. Minutes taken and submitted by arolfe.
