Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 03/19/2001


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by fyfer.

Treasurer's Report:
	sly: Hi.

Chairman's Report:
	fyfer: Angie and Keith are talking to stopit about the DeCSS
		thing.  

Office Report:
	sly: I'd like to get a straw poll about upgrading the phone
		service on the phone in the back to accept MIT charge
		numbers to make long distance calls.  I don't know what
		the price difference is, but it's minimal.
	jweiss: Some ISDN phones accept these number and some don't?
	sly: Yes.
	belmonte: If someone wants to make a long distance call, why can't they use
		one of the phones that can?
	sly: Sometimes it's annoying.  For example, if you need to call
		while sitting at a particular machine.
	fyfer: And it might be hard to figure out which those are.
	fyfer: All those in favor of consistent phones.

	sly: I'll get more info for next meeting.

Office Cleaning Report:
	jweiss: Take down cans and bottles.  We should try to get
		someone to vacuum when they come by.
	cyruse: Whiteboard says it was done recently.
	dmaze: The office does get vacuumed regularly.  Usually in the
		afternoon if only a couple of people are here.
	tibbetts: Does the fish work?
	ingolia: Yes.
	fyfer: It's not-a-fish.

MIT Computing Report:	

Computer Services:
	jweiss: I went through the linux installer bugs list.  We have
		lists of bugs that haven't been resolved, categorized by
		seriousness.  I suspect we'll release once we fix the
		showstoppers. We also need to look at the docs.
	sly: The docs are fine

SIPB Backup Report:
	zacheiss: Did themselves.
	fyfer: Was there a problem last week?
	zacheiss: Yes, a bad tape one day.

Publications Report:	

Orientation Report:
	fyfer: Do we know anymore about the CPW midway?
	tibbetts: If you want a booth on the second floor, you can get
		one by emailing the right person [tibbetts knows].  It's
		also possible to get your name in the guide prefrosh
		get.  
	fyfer: It would be cool to have midway representation, because
		we're the coolest part of MIT.  Volunteers?  When does
		this need to be done?
	tibbetts: Real soon	

IAP Report:

CokeComm Report:
	cyruse: We have coke.
	gif: I'm not cokecomm, not even a little.  He has the money now.

Other:
	fyfer: We have a cool old monitor for binkley.  	

Other Other:
	gif: You are at wit's end. Paths lead off in all
		directions.  
	dmaze: I graded four pounds of 6.170 pset this weekend
	tibbetts: Akamai's stock is below 8.  You don't have to feel bad
		this weekend.
	dmaze: I own some.  I feel bad
