Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of Aug 18 2003 


The meeting was called to order at 7:32 by aletta.

In attendance were

tibbetts: I'm going to go with rax there.

Treasurer's Report:

tibbetts: Tahiti and CHina were nice. I've been lame; I'll deal with reimbursements after the meeting. jhawk found questionable budget numbers in SAP. We have an increased budget but due to increased costs we will be decreased by about $1000; I will confirm. I am graduating and moving on in two weeks so you will need a new treasurer.
hartmans: Our chairman was wondering if we could hold off on elections until he gets back from China.
glasser: Do we also need other things, like Aletta and Nim (EC?)
tibbetts: We could hold off, since no one enforces rules. I am forced to point this out, Richard.

aletta: He is in China.

rax: The fish went off.

hartmans: THe area back by CokeComm has been kind of pitly.
jhawk: After the midweek cleaning?
hartmans: Oh, is it fixed?
jhawk: It was much worse.

tibbetts: There's this VMWare thing. I am going to shoot it in 4 months if no one takes over.

jhawk: We stopped getting usenet news Saturday evening until Monday. People sent mail. We odn't have many maintainers.

hartmans: Never mind.

	aletta: Low on iUsenet.

Orientation Report:

rax: I just got out of the hospital. If someone would be willing to help, that would be cool.
hartmans: Last meeting we strongarmed Ike into doing Tours.
rax: I was supposed to do tours but would be happy to do the midway and have Ike do Tours.
glasser: There are frosh outside the door. Hi frosh!
rax: Oh my god they are already twinkies.
jhawk: Does anyone have a discgun?

jhawk: Other is for stuff about SIPB members, so that should have gone in others.

tibbetts: Move to get rid of Other Other.

glasser: Amend to get rid of Other but keep Other Other.

aletta: All sorts of dumb things happen when you put me in control.
hartmans: I think this would be a bad idea from a tradition standpoint but am tempted to suggest we get rid of it briefly.
jhawk: Dude, serious tradition! <hits gong>

aletta: Anything else for Other Other?

rjbarbal: I know someone interested in looking into doing some Oracle learning. How active is SIPB oracle stuff currently?
hartmans: It died since no one had anything to do with it.
jhawk: It is not running due to the security vulnerability. It is 90% dead.
rjbarbal: How much effort to get it back?
hartmans: They get to install Oracle.

tibbetts: I got engaged to the vice chair. FGetting a ring filled out the budget nicely.
hartmans: We don't have a report for that anymore.

tibbetts: Taxes take a lot of your money, you notice more when you are self-employed.
