Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 10/20/2003


The meeting was called to order at 7:32 by arolfe.

Office Report:

	jhawk: Keith asked me to move to buy a VCR for LAMP.  Move to
		allocate $120 for this.

	lnemzer: Would a TV tuner in snork be desirable for this.

	jhawk: I think the answer is no.

	hartmans: We really want automation that integrates with
		snork, but no one would actually get the tuner card
		working, so we should go this way.  My personal
		preference is not to have LAMP in the SIPB office.

	jhawk: To my mind it would be rather shameful if SIPB didn't
		have the ability to listen to LAMP, it being one of
		our projects.

	jtu: Sam, why don't you want LAMP?

	hartmans: I believe in automation.

	jtu: Move to auction the two monitors at the back of the
		office.

	jhawk: I got a hole puncher requiring 220V power.  I'm curious
		whether people think getting it to work would be
		feasible.

	deberg: How many sheets could it drill at once.

	jhawk: It's limited only by the mechanical limits on the paper
		you can insert and the mess you can tolerate.

	hartmans: Move that it's not to stay here more than 1 month
		unless it's a working SIPB service.

	deberg: We should get some 220V outlets on general principle,
		anyway.

	jtu: What kind of mess does it make?

	jhawk: It spits out chads as it drills.

	lnemzer: The DVD burner would be more useful with MAC
		software.  Like to allocate money to buy software for
		this, and a Firewire bus card.

	hartmans: Can you get a card that works with Linux?

	lnemzer: Move to allocate up to $200 for DVD burning software
		for the Mac, and a firewire PCMCIA card for user's
		laptops.

	hartmans: Lots of people have more than a CD's worth of data.

	jtu: If we had this, we could backup user's laptops more
		easily.
