Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 01/12/2004


The meeting was called to order at 19:32 by golem.

Treasurer's Report:

Chairman's Report:
	golem: Officer elections are coming up.  It's not entirely
		clear to me whether Monday the 2nd (Reg Day) counts as
		spring term.  Elections will be on the 9th.  We'll send
		out an announcement closer to the date.

Office Report:
	ike: I move to allocate $130 to buy Mac OS 10.3 for the iMac.

MIT Computing Report:
	golem: The net has been acting funny.  Last week I was having
		trouble contacting both the AFS and zephyr servers.

Computer Services:
	golem: I'm starting work on this Subversion server thing, but if
		someone else wants to do it instead, that would be cool.

	cporter: I'm going to convert steve-dallas to a new VMWare
		service.  I'm sending out email.

Publications Report:
	keithw: I think we should write a SIPB annual report with the
		participation of the board, subject to veto of the EC.
		I think it's something we should do in exchange for
		getting all this money.
	ike: I think if Keith wants to do it, more power to him.
	golem: It might be best not to draw attention to ourselves.
	ocschwar: This is the first time since the Great Depression that
		MIT has done layoffs.  If I had to make the choice
		between making layoffs and punting SIPB, I'd punt SIPB.

Orientation Report:

IAP Report:
	ocschwar: I have my Python class.  Nothing helps an IAP class
		better than a merciless campaign of plagiarism.

CokeComm Report:

Other:
	kchen: Ask SIPB has published for the first time in a few
		months.  If you have any suggestions, let me know.
	golem: Have you done a column on version control?

	keithw: Today at the Cambridge district court I had a document
		ripped out of my hand by a clerk who made it for me and
		then realized I shouldn't have had it.

Other Other:
	ocschwar: A cold snap is coming tomorrow afternoon.

	ike: The Computer Loft in Allston does not suck if you've done
		something to your Apple computer.
