Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 01/31/2005


The meeting was called to order at 1930 by jtu.

Treasurer's Report:
	arolfe: It hasn't changed much since last time.

Chairman's Report:
	jtu: Jeff went to the ISTAB meeting.  
	jbarnold: There
		was a rep from Stellar there.
	jtu: Elections are next week.  Active voting members should come
		and run and hold an office.
	golem: Is quorum smaller than the number of active voting
		members?
	jtu: Yes!  I seem to remember some number, but don't remember
		what it is.

Office Report:
	jhawk: Our LaTeX companion seems to have gone missing, but it
		wasn't updated for 2e anyway.  I move $51 for a new one.

	belmonte: jtwang reports that milquetoast's disk is dead or
		nearly so.  Who would like to send it in for warranty
		replacement?  	
	jtwang: I'll do it.  I'm not good enough at debugging to figure out why
		it's died several times, but I can try.
	jbarnold: Is there any reason to wait to invoke the warning to
		figure out why it's failed?	

Office Cleaning Report:

MIT Computing Report:
	jmorzins: There was an AFS server upgrade recently to 1.2.11.
		This has effected some windows machines that hadn't
		upgraded their client.
	belmonte: WebSIS went south briefly this morning, appropriately enough,
		on reg day.	

Computer Services:
	jbarnold: Still waiting for jweiss to respond to me.  I hesitate
		to remind him again because I like to count the number
		of times I've reminded someone on one hand.
	golem: Multics was upgraded to 9.3.  It was uneventful.
	jhawk: By that same jweiss person.		

Publications Report:
	jtu: We want matlab.
	jhawk: I finished revising iLaTeX but I didn't throw out the old
		ones or make new copies.  I also revised the scanning
		documentation.  It has been deployed.  jdsylvan said he
		wanted to create a matlab gui document.  We still don't
		have any iMatlab.
	jhawk: Should I just trash the old docs?
	jmorzins: yes

Orientation Report:
	jtu: Whee orientation.  It's soon.  

IAP Report:
	jtu: It's over.  kevinr did a really great job at publicity.
		The lecture series seemed to go OK.  I don't remember
		anything else that might have been important.

CokeComm Report:	

Other:
	jtu: Saferide really sucks and never came and it didn't
		come in a 50 minute time period.
	golem: I will be testing for blue belt on Saturday, Feb. 12.
		Anyone's welcome to come.
	jmorzins: Do we get to test against you or watch?
	golem: Just watch.
	jtu: Classes start tomorrow.  Try not to skip any.

Other Other:
	belmonte: 1) Some people at in ETH Zürich sent mail because they
		admire SIPB for dealing with sexuality in an
		uncomplicated way.
	2) gamache stuck a U-Haul under the bridge on Mem Drive Sunday night.
