Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 05/23/2005


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by paigep.

In attendance were

Treasurer's Report:
	arolfe: We have around $400 left to allocate if we want.

Chairman's Report:
	paigep: He's gone for the summer.
	jtu: Kevin is in VA until May 31.

	jtwang: I nominate cporter for membership.
	cporter: I accept.

Office Report:
	kenta: Quiche does not have AFS right now.  It's a 9.4 update
		bug.
	cporter: I upgraded the old steve-dallas and there's 4G of
		memory around that we could add to other machines.

SIPB Projects:
	jtu: I'm still talking to the shirts company.

Computer Services:
	jhawk: The replacement UPS batteries arrived and will be
		installed this week.
	cporter: The parts of the new steve-dallas weren't sufficient
		because the heatsink was too big and the powersupply was
		150W too small.  I'd like to allocate $400 for two new
		heatsinks and fans and a new powersupply.
	jhawk: Can you not return the stuff you purchased?
	cporter: I could.
	jhawk: Does the new equipment cost more than $400 more than the
		old?
	cporter: We need a powersupply and heatsink in either case.

	paigep: We have them.

	paigep: Do we have a sucker yet?
	cporter: No, I emailed kchen about this.

	jhawk: FYSM status?
	janetryu: The CD has room for our name, short blurb, long blurb,
		a logo, and an image.  This was due on friday.  By the
		end of this month, the two PDFs are due.  Jeff Arnold
		and I picked out the content for those.  One side is the
		office services and the other is the computer-type
		services.  
	gschmidt: Where do I see these if I'm an incoming freshman?
	jhawk: On the CD and on the web.
	janetryu: They're the same as the one-sheet we give out at the
		office.

	cporter: Harddrives suck.
	rjbarbal: I started my new job at MGH today.  It sounds like
		they have some part time and temp positions if people
		are looking.
	fustflum: I'm looking for recommendations for sheetfed scanners.
