Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2007-03-12 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by nelhage. In attendance were Voting members: andersk aseering golem jbarnold jhawk nelhage ocschwar tilia wdaher | arolfe Associate members: asedeno hartmans jemorris mitchb srz Prospectives: jwalden k_land mathmike sakhan Guests: | zrolfe@wesleyan.edu Treasurer’s Report: tilia: Spend money. nelhage: No! Report of the Treasurer. andersk: Too late. Report of the Chairman: nelhage: tabbott is out of town. MIT Computing Report: mathmike: Mail? jhawk: SUCKS! So on early Wednesday morning, po14 paniced with some kind of filesystem-related problem. After waiting for fsck for almost a day, they gave up and started copying to a separate RAID array. jhawk: Additionally, po10 ran out of disk space, mostly because NIST was too busy with po14 to pay attention to their automated reports. mitchb: As a result of this mess, a lot of other mail was queued and delayed for several days. jemorris: We had to change the Defcon number several times. Unfortunately, this involved greuling manual labor… nelhage: Hopefully the sign will be completed by CPW. SIPB Projects Report: jbarnold: scripts is now load-balanced using LVS across two physical machines. nelhage: Have you fixed your mysterious 500s? jbarnold: Yes. nelhage: There will be a SIPB Hackathon in the office on Sunday, starting at about 2, and going until we have to leave. The cool kids will be here all night. If you feel like being awesome, show up an hour early and help clean up the crap all over the office. aseering: We have dual-head Athena back there. jbarnold: What’s the current status of barnowl? nelhage: It now supports 256 colors! asedeno: Well, on my machine. nelhage: Not in SVN yet. jwalden: What about alpha transparency? asedeno: I thought about it. nelhage: I’m planning on rewriting the Perl plugin system to not suck. mathmike: How far until there’s a release? nelhage: Good question. We’ve gotten less excited about pushing for a release now that there’s a build in AFS. We should probably think about that. Office Report: jhawk: We now have Kleenex, as well as a laser-guided paper cutter. nelhage: For those unfamiliar with it, it has a big button named…“laser”…which turns on the…“laser”. jwalden: We also have a .002 book for which I’m awaiting some level of compensation. k_land: I got stuff for mounting the whiteboard. nelhage: Cool. So you’re hoping to get that done tonight? k_land: Yes. I’m going to get that done tonight. nelhage: What’s the status of ZSR’s fan? aseering: It’s not that it’s broken, but it’s whining loudly—that’s its status. nelhage: We should tell Hotline. nelhage: Move to allocate $100 for a copy of RT Essentials for the office. aseering: We have one splitter that lets you connect two monitors to a dual DVI port, and we have two computers that want one. nelhage: Decide whether you think we want to get something, and make an allocation if so. jwalden: I see an XKCD poster over there. nelhage: Oh yeah, we have an XKCD poster. Office Cleaning Report: nelhage: The office is full of crap. It’s not entirely clear where it’s all coming from, although I blame certain members that I won’t name right now. Please try to keep the office cleaner. Publications Report: nelhage: Last copy of “Using Discuss” has still not been taken. CokeComm Report: nelhage: CokeComm got more Coke, etc. Orientation/IAP Report: nelhage: CPW is coming up. I believe Tim successfully submitted a request for a booth at Midway. Other: wdaher: geofft and quentin started some stupid flamewar with EC and Next House. Can I move to censure them? Because I totally move to censure them. mitchb: Friendly amendment to censure jhawk at the same time? wdaher: Not friendly. jemorris: It’s dumb, he had nothing to do with it. <0-MANY-MANY, motion fails> Friendly amendment to censure all the people who goaded geofft and quentin. wdaher: That’s friendly. <7-1-5, motion passes> nelhage: The board censures geofft, quentin, and everyone who goaded them on. That means *you*, jbarnold! jbarnold: Wait a minute… arolfe: I think we should have more young members doing this sort of thing to help us with our secret stress-testing of the mail system. nelhage: There’s a talk on Jifty by Jesse Vincent tomorrow at 7:15 in E51-376. Other Other: jemorris: Move to commend nelhage for being a good substitute chairman. mitchb: You know, the pat on the back was not part of this motion! nelhage: We’ll pretend that belonged in Other Other. mitchb: Hey, I object! The meeting was adjourned at 19:52. Minutes taken and submitted by andersk.
