Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2007-06-11 The meeting was called to order at tabbott by 19:30. In attendance were Voting members: andersk jbarnold jhawk kchen nelhage quentin tabbott Associate members: asedeno ocschwar Prospectives: price Guests: Officer Reports: tabbott: We have $800 left. There’s also $475 from the Tor project, and $1200 being held by jhawk. MIT Computing Report: '() SIPB Projects Report: quentin: geofft and I continued playing with asterisk. We have a working security model based on suexec that allows people to run scripts out of their home directories. danjared has implied that we’re going to get a SIPB VoIP account. tabbott: Is this going to be a scripts-style infrastructure project? quentin: Because of how the telephone system works, it shouldn’t be open to anyone that can press a button. Currently every VoIP account has a cost object associated with it. I was thinking something we could offer to SIPB members and prospectives. jbarnold: How hard would it be to put sane limits on the calls people place, and then open it up so that anyone can get such accounts? quentin: geofft is working on a secure filter that we can use for that. It wouldn't be impossible, but would be hard. jbarnold: Even if it does charge some nominal amount of money to SIPB, I don’t think we care. We’re mainly concerned about placing $500 worth of calls to 900 numbers or international numbers in a month. quentin: We should probably revisit that in the new fiscal year. quentin: We are planning on using a server I donated for asterisk. jbarnold: In the long term you may just want to use the virtualization service. quentin: We’re also planning on getting an FXO card, to interface with the plain telephone network, such as fax receiving. jbarnold: It doesn’t seem to me like the best hardware match. quentin: Can I ask jweiss about spare ops machines? jbarnold: Sure. jhawk: What’s the huge table outside the machine room? jbarnold: It’s going to be gone by the end of the day. nelhage: Move to allocate up to $1100 out of jhawk’s funds for more RAM for Linerva. As outlined in the email I sent, we’ll buy 4 2GB sticks of RAM. kchen: Second. quentin: I think we should think more wisely about spending our money. tabbott: Do you have any other ideas? quentin: No. <7-0-2, motion passes> Office Report: jhawk: We have a nice new Fluke 179 with true RMS, the magnetic toolpack holder, and the TL225 kit of probes. [beep] tabbott: The office surfaces are a bit messier than they have been. nelhage: quiche appears to be having issues. We’re not sure exactly why. nelhage: Also, we installed that card from quiche into mega-man. tabbott: What exactly is the goal for having this video setup on mega-man? jbarnold: It’s easier to play video and audio on mega-man than the Athena machines, because it’s Debian. It would be nice if it had speakers attached to it. nelhage: I think it would be reasonable for the speaker bars to just live on mega-man. quentin: [demonstrates the HDTV card on mega-man] Education Report: tabbott: IAP is sooner than you think, as is Orientation. nelhage: Have we settled on a title for our IAP coordinator yet? price: That sounds like a title. Other: jhawk: There’s now a magnet under the staples outside the office, to keep them from falling on the floor. Other Other: '() Discussion Report: The meeting was adjourned at 19:53.
