Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2007-07-16


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by tabbott.

In attendance were

Officer Reports:
	tabbott: I’m out of town next week.

MIT Computing Report:
	danjared: Sucks!

	tabbott: The MITSIS upgrade happened over the weekend.  You
		still can’t get unofficial transcripts yet, but you
		can get MIT IDs now.

SIPB Projects Report:
	tabbott: We had a virtualization project party on Sunday, and
		got various things done.  If you’re interested in
		helping out, email sipb-xen.

	tabbott: The scripts.mit.edu project announced a new
		decision-making policy.  If you have comments about
		that, let me know.

	tabbott: We also had a bunch of Debian-Athena work over the
		last week.  We’re meeting again tomorrow at 3PM, if
		you want to come by and help us do testing…
	spang: Take over the world!
	tabbott: Hopefully we’ll have a beta release soon.

Office Report:
	jhawk: When we bought the oscilloscope, it was our stated
		intention to later buy its CF card module so we could
		save its data.  This module is now discontinued.  If
		we want to buy it, we should buy it soon.  Move to
		allocate $400 for this module.
	tabbott: We did not say that it was our intention to buy one,
		just that we would consider it.
	jhawk: I think it would be a useful thing to have.  Currently,
		anyone who wanted this functionality would just find
		another scope to use.

	jhawk: I mentioned before that I thought we should pick up a
		cheap counter for our signal generator since it
		doesn’t have a display.  I found one for $10–20.  Move
		to allocate $15 for a cheap counter.

	aseering: There’s a request for $100 to repair one of the PCs.
		[confusion] Move to allocate $100 to repair the broken
		Kinesis.
	tabbott: Is it under warranty?  That should be investigated.
	tabbott: Adding the condition that if we can get it repaired
		for free.

	zev: Do we have any more Kineses besides those two?  We have a
		box from 2005.

	aseering: For quiche’s display, I’ve been poking at it, but I
		suspect it has a bad graphics card that will need to
		be replaced.

Education Report:
	tabbott: We still don’t have somebody to handle computer tours
		and other orientation events.  We also don’t have
		someone for IAP coordination.  If you’re interested in
		either of these things, let me know.

	tabbott: Another thing that will be coming up in the fall is
		the Ask SIPB series.  That would also be a good thing
		to have happen.

	jhawk: simsong is moving to California.
	tibbetts: Yay!
