Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2007-08-27


The meeting was called to order at 7:31 by nelhage.

In attendance were

MIT Computing Report:

jhawk: last week's mail problems came from
compromised webmail accounts. 3down is not updated on this. 

SIPB Projects Report:

nelhage: SIPB virtualization project continues to move along.
We can host virtual hosts without compromising the machine room.
Still needs to write a web interface. 

aseering: How do you do this?

nelhage: we proxy stuff, we don't bridge.

keithw: HAL has spoken with Grochow, and they can give 
SIPB 25K for the LAMP account, in return for a SIPB promise 
to continue to support LAMP for 2 more years, and a student who will be 
responsible for it. Will we commit to continue supporting 
LAMP? What does the Board think?

nelhage: I think it's worth it. 2 years is okay. 

aseering: What do we need money for?

keithw: replacement hardware. 

keithw: straw poll please. Do we continue for 2 years? 

Straw poll is 100% for the affirmative. 

Office Report:

jhawk: I purchased a bunch of stuff, including staples. 
I got us a postage scale. Got cross over cables. 
They are in the cable drawer. They are yellow and marked as crossovers. 

nelhage: arolfe sez our soldering iron is broken. Move to allocate
up to $65 for one. Passes by white ballot. 

Education Report:

We can has freshman.
Nelhage and Tim are doing things for the Midway, 
and there will be a hackathon on the 8th. Let us know
if that's a bad date. 

Next week: SIPB computer tours, and story time with Jis. 

tilia: IAP is still sooner than you think. 
We need a sucker^Wcoordinator.
