Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2013-06-03 The meeting was called to order by achernya at 19:30. In attendance were Voting members: fluffy dvorak42 tboning achernya bbarne adehnert dove dwilson lfaraone iannucci Associate members: quentin xela glasgall andersk mitchb kaduk jbarnold Prospectives: k_sunter Guests: Motion to recess until achernya's laptop is working again, so that budget can be discussed. Administrivia ============= achernya: SIPB currently has $725.64 of budget left. glasgall: That is not quite enough to buy batteries from our annual budget. quentin: The price from GovConnection is $820. We might want to use our SAO account to cover the difference. adehnert: You need bits on both accounts to place the order. lfaraone: Motion for $124 to buy emergency lighting for SMR. SMR's emergency lighting doesn't work, as was noticed during Cambridge's last power outage. We might want 10 or so lights. xela: My experience was that those do not work. I advise buying a LED flashlight and a spare pack of batteries. bbaren: I have a flashlight that provides 110 lumins for an hour. xela: I had a $7 flashlight that worked for 16 hours with cheap batteries. achernya: Does anyone have flashlight recomendations? adehnert: If we aren't buying $500 worth of stuff, we should buy the batteries to spend our budget. kaduk: We have $320 put into the SAO account this year. achernya: What's the current value of that account? kaduk: The balance is $6848.84. [a discussion about the shame that there is no interest on this account] adehnert: Last time I talked to SAO about a reserve account, it was $50,000 to open. bbaren: I think we should either buy batteries or a scanner. iannucci: Let's not agonize about this. fluffy: we're not going to do anything with it untill we have them all anyways. quentin: I move to allocate $837 for batteries. [Seconded, Motion passes 12-0-0] glasgall: We got lovely new chairs. We're getting rid of the old ones. They are labeled with 'reuse'. If you want to claim them, do so before next meeting. Project Updates =============== lfaraone: There was interest in starting a SIPB IRC service ala linerva. There may be an actual server at some point. Hardware is currently being set up and configured. It should be in trial by next school year. iannucci: 2 of our 8 hosts have now exceeded 900 days of up time. On July 20th we will update to Precise on Prod achernya: I think I moved all your packages CBDS to DH7. Debathena has 130 packages that could use love, if you are interested talk to me by email. glasgall: Scripts is installing the 5th scrips host, Johnny-Carson. achernya: It is the first host using XL instead of XM Other ===== xela: Mark Eichin mentioned something over dinner a few weeks ago about how local SIPB-connected startups used to get together to discuss topics of common interest over dinner. Topics that would now would now be considered part of what's lately come to be called "DevOps." This seems like a custom worth bringing back. Jered thinks so too --- so Permabit is going to be hosting the first of what we hope will be a series of DevOps evenings for local startups later this summer. Details TBD, and very much dependent on who's interested. So if you're at a local startup and think this could be cool --- drop me email. quentin: Commencement is on Friday. I hear some SIPB members are graduating, including the chair. dwilson: Take better care of the fridge. Please recycle the containers once they are done. Talk to me if you're interested in being coke-comm Other Other ========== bbaren: Weather this friday is projected to have a high of 70 and be humid and drizzly. iannucci: I hear Cape Cod is nice. lfaraone: Wonderland is not wonderful. quentin: Carson beach is accessable from the redline and much nicer. dwilson: Hey guys I'm from Florida and I'm unimpressed with your beaches. meeting adjourned at 19:50. Minutes taken and submitted by tboning.
