Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2012-06-10

The meeting was called to order by sqshemet at 19:30.

jhawk: justin organized a meeting with fraans about the serach for an IS&T head. One of the things from that meeting is that there is insufficienet communication between IST and SIPB, and givne that their money can be used for goods and services for and from us, and it's my intention to propose a standing policy tthat the chair should meet once a year with the head of IS&T and then postpone it. Are there any objections to that?

glasgall: What if IST won't meet with SIPB?

jhawk: I don't see that as likely, but if it is we're in bad shape.

       Motion: Standing policy, that the SIPB chair should meet with the IST chair once a year. 

glasgall: seconded

jhawk: Move to postpone to the first meeting of term.

       Seconded by glasgall. White balloted.

glasgall: as mentioned, we are getting rid of the old and broken chairs since we have nice new ones. This is the last chance to take them before we put them on reuse.

jhawk: On June 4th, we learned that IS&T started the process to install a card reader in our door. Much email was sent on the topic. I understand that someone from the security office will get in touch soon. I'd appreciate if the EC would get back to me on whether I did the right thing.

glasgall: thank you for noticing.

dwilson: thank you for your actions so far, I think in general this sort of thing is best done by the chair.

glasgall: we ordered battery packs for SMR. I'm not sure which budget cycle they are on.

dove: we orderd four monoprice cherry blue switch keyboards. Most office heads now have one. We also have a hdmi to dvi

Project Updates

glasgall: we're working on a new scripts server for fedora 19 and should be done somewhat soon. 

kaduk: SIPB AFS is mostly running on one server. We've upgraded from Hardy to Wheezy on one server, and are testing before deployment on the second server.

lfaraone: Quassel's configuration format makes me sad. Its a binary format encoded in an ini file.

glasgall: athena will be running AFS 1.6 this time next week if all goes well.

dove: Apple announced a new OSX and macbook pro and air.
