Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2021-01-25


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by wmoses.

Administrivia:

        wmoses: It's still IAP

	quentin: IAP is sooner than you think

	jnwagner: IAP things are going well

	wmoses: there's an extra activities midway at the end of IAP, could you do that too?

	jnwagner: sure, midways are fun, also current MIT students know a little more about what's going on than prefrosh

	wmoses: not to say MIT students know what's going on, I certainly don't

	jnwagner: they at least have mit emails

Project Reports:

        quentin: power outage friday, damaged w91 network equipment, lots of stuff down including xvm

	efjepsen: mattermost back up, I enabled the systemd service so it will start automatically, after meeting will make sure kelly and quentin have access

	jeffery: people were unable to connect to minecraft, turned out the server dns got messed up, related to MIT's selling of IP addresses, fixed friday and minecraft servers are back up

	wmoses: the minecraft dns servers were the old ones, which have been transitioned now

	quentin: many services have been affected by this over the past week, I keep finding broken things.

	gshay: courseroad is using integration testing now


Other:

        mcyoung: guess what bug got fixed: llvm 12 will have a noalias that isn't broken

	wmoses: I personally add noalias to everything in llvm

        wmoses: reddit has successfully seemingly manipulated market, giant game of chicken between reddit and hedge funds

	quentin: using gamestop as the chicken

	wmoses: kind of

	mrittenb: there was an inauguration

	wmoses: I hear lots of cool executive orders are going around

	quentin: an MIT professor is now part of the cabinet

	wmoses: another MIT professor is something else about the office of science and technology policy

	wmoses: one of many reasons for MIT professors to take a sabbatical

	bds: biden admin has called on russia to release Navalny

	mrittenb: intel got hacked / accidentally released their earnings report, it was the same url as their q3 one with q3 changed to q4

	wmoses: next semester is sooner than you think

	quentin: people who will be on campus next semester can now get tested

	gshay: they are sending out kits

	wmoses: roughly 20 million people vaccinated in US

	mrittenb: how many worldwide?

	quentin: wake me up when that surpasses the number of cases

	wmoses: still, relatively large compared to count

	jnwagner: are people not on campus but in the area eligible for tests?

	mrittenb: idk, but you can download the covidpass app to check
